About 8mm tread on at the time. I think the compound was too hard, but the size of the lugs didn't help either. A few people I've talked to had the same issue. Was asking around when I needed new tyres for the new wagon. I ended up buying fairly cheap stuff and they're half worn out at 35,000km.Quote:

I went to see the Man with the BFG's in town today, the Coopers were just a stretch too far really.
Anyway, his advice was for me to run the tyres it came with untill coming in to next winter as he wouldn't give me bugger all more for them now than he would then and unless I was going to go nuts the ones on it would take me most places in the dry I needed to go.
Decent of him I thought.
It's good advise if you are mostly staying on the road. I found I got plenty of punctures with factory fitted tyres (gravel roads, forestry roads, work sites) because they are generally about ride comfort and road speed/fuel economy.

Bought a new Colorado back in June and was able to take advantage of the Field-day deals on a set of Cooper AT3's, and then the good buggars at Tyreland traded the brand new set of Bridgestones that were on it. All in all, the set of Coopers was way less than I was quoted for a set of Maxxis
I went to the Cooper place today after reading Mad Maori's estimate of a far Cooper price.
Was quoted 455$ a corner but I'm sure that was a different tyre than the A3 the guy said more of a 50/50 tyre and the tread looked quite aggressive.
Also was told if I bought them in Dunedin or Christchurch they would be Guaranteed for 70 thousand but because Oamaru was considered Semi Rural if I bought them here I would only be guaranteed for 50 Thousand.
Thought that was quite weird really, spend 20$ on Fuel and drive 70 miles on the old tyres to get another 20thousand Km
Maybe I picked it up wrong, but anyway that's the impression I drove out with.

Iv had cooper at3 and loved them pricey but, I have Kumho at51 on now and they are every bit as good as the cooper. They are a fairly new tyre model but ranked no2 in the states with the bfg no1. Excellent on road especially in the wet and awesome on ice , havnt got stuck on muddy clay farm tracks so they are all good plus they are a lot cheaper than the coopers.

I've had the new kuhmo mt50 one for the last few months they are a great tyre. I was a big fan of the kl71s but these are a step up again literally no road noise handle very well on the tar seap in all conditions and well I havnt given them a hiding off road they show good capabilities. Ive done a west coast trip Arthur's pass crown range ect during a snow storm and they just stick to the road

Well , what happened is this
We had organised a place for the Toby shoot,dry it was good, wet well......
Anyway it rained for 2 days and was snowing the night before and raining when we were putting up targets
So I said to the BFg people , I need them now. he said No, I'm not going to sell them to you as the new model have not been performing well and they have pulled the new model after only one yr as some report were only 35 k
Anyway, he sold me duratec at 250 a corner.
What are they like @jakewire? Anyone else? That sounds like an ok price.
Ive just traded my '15 Triton for a new DMax so am talking to @madmaori about new tyres (wouldn't buy from anyone else-fantastic service and sharp prices).
I've tried Cooper AT3 and found them slippy in the wet on tarmac (on a Challenger).
On the Triton Ive got (had) Hercules Terra Trac DT and haven't been able to fault them as a 80/20 tyre. Wearing well and grippy. Road noise ok.
The biggest treck I'm likely to do is the Macaulay and am on muddy farm tracks a few times a year. Gravel roads though nearly every week.
So far so good Tahr
performed well in the wet on Friday and today and not as noisy as they look like they would be.
