If I remember right, EVs 0.3% chance vs CE 1.5% chance of igniting. Lots of research, figures don’t change too much. If you took out fires while EVs charging, it’d be even less.

@McNotty Dont suppose you have the stats for putting out said fires...From what I understand EV fires are extremely diffcult to quell and CE fires are relatively straight forward in comparison....Dont get me wrong; it is best to avoid fire in both- no question...but we hear that fire crews essentialy wait for EVs to finnish burning and work on stopping any fire spreading rather than actuually extinguish the fire like they would with CE....

Easy to extinguish, bury the bastards in dirt. Of cause said dirt would have to be taken to Perry’s black hole in the Waikato

Whoa back there fella... Adjust your figures for age and speed of fire development (as a factor of damage caused) and then run the numbers.

Also total risk from compounds generated from the combustion and gassing off processes is horrific with EV batteries, them bastards are WAY more toxic than any other vehicle fire. The figure was something like up to 3000 gallons of toxic gasses per kWH of capacity - which it lots.
