    Speed Cameras

Had a letter informing me my vehicle was photographed doing 55 kph in a 50 kph.

I advised the sender I was not present and did not know who was driving and requested the camera evidence to identify the driver.

Received the camera evidence I could not even see any individual in the vehicle at all despite the photo being taken from front in the dark.

I advised I could not state for sure who was driving and I refused to lie and pay $30.00 and have this infringement recorded against me.

I did ascertain my partner and her daughter were possibly in this area at the time of the infringement coming from Dunedin to the Christchurch area but because they shared the driving and were unfamiliar with the road and surroundings and were not aware of any speed cameras until weeks later I could not state who was driving at the time of the infringement.

I requested a police officer attend my home to investigate this infringement to no avail.

I eventually completed the declaration when I was next in town advising the names of who allegedly were possibly driving at that time which seemed problematic in the police office as I stated two names.

I received a reminder to pay the infringement so I contacted the sender who advised I should ignore the reminder as they will hold the first of the two people I mentioned on the declaration responsible.

I asked how she knew this one of the two people was responsible, no real response I asked should this person also lie to facilitate paying you $30.00.

I then asked who managed her department she refused to say or to provide guidance where an individual may work away from home and his vehicles are legally available to friends and family other than apparently I should have a log to be filled in by every user of my personal vehicles I suggested she provide evidence and identify the driver a photo would help.

I again asked her how I can protect myself from such infringement's and an individual not filling out a log to legally use my vehicle when she cant identify the driver.

Phone call was terminated to difficult I imagine.

Anyone else having these difficulty's, are these speed cameras fit for purpose.

Sounds like you get the money, Its a principle look it up in a dictionary.

Does your family use your vehicles pray tell how do you deal with these situations.

What do you think happens with the infringements lets not be difficult just pay a few years later something happens and you have multiple speeding infringements recorded in your name suddenly you say it was not me oh then why did you pay.

But I am a fit and proper person, really you have multiple speeding infringements you appear careless to me.

But I did not do it, I just didn't want to be difficult.

Like the police station said its only $30.00

If it comes back to a person I would say they need a better picture. However, I would of thought all responsibility came back to the owner, in that case your screwed.

I agree if a photo is used it should identify the individual no argument the person responsible takes the rap and pays up more importantly the infringement is recorded against the individual committing the crime.

Should these type of cameras be used after dark indeed are they certified for use outwith certain lighting parameters ?

I must have missed something, I thought speed cameras weren't prosecuting the drivers (demerit points) as the photos aren't able to show who was driving (as in this example) I think if the police can't prove who was driving then they can't pin in on an individual, knowing only $30 but what happens if you drive the length of the country and pick up half a dozen and your doing 60 in 50 zones... All of a sudden it adds up.

    Good luck with that...
They'll send it straight to Baycorp for recovery, so for a $30 fine to blow out to heaps more doesn't take much.
Easier to pay the $30 and spank the mrs

I was under the impression I could have a court date, present all the documented correspondence.

Prove It could not have been me nor was I aware of who legally had access to my vehicles and were driving them at any time.

If I lied to make it go away is that not illegal.

Claim loss of earnings and expenses I am self employed well qualified and well paid.

In a perfect world and as I previously stated its a principle.

First up 55km/h is a bullshit fine! I challenge the cops to have data loggers in all their personal cars and police cars too.... I bet those hypocrites do those sort of speeds every day.

Maybe ill drive around constantly checking my instrument cluster, then When I am in court for tail ending someone or running over someone, I can explain how the current policy of our brave police force to push pathetic fines on drivers for driving to the conditions (looking at the road, not the speedo.....) forced me into a dangerous habit of continually taking my concentration away from my surroundings and most importantly, what is in front of me.

Anyone who argues for pushing fines for anything less than 10km/h over the limit (except school zones) is either blindly ignorant of basic common sense or just plain devious.

make a formal complaint regarding the person who hung up on you. it will at least piss them off when they have to do some more paper work... at best might cost the bastard a promotion etc.

My Monaro was caught speeding whilst being delivered back to work from Mag & Turbo, it rarely leaves its Garage.

Of course it was a few weeks later the fine showed up.

I talked to Mag & Turbo & no way it was their Guy as he didn't go that way, after I pointed out other than driving 200m they were the only ones driving it that day & nearly that week.

I couldn't be bothered with the BS for such a small fine, paid it & they took it off my bill...... wee mistake there as now it is forever recorded against my name

Guilty unless you can prove your innocence? The cops claim someone broke the law, surely it should be up to them to prove who.

By the way, was the ticket in Palmerston?

I got one there once for 56km/h, 5km/h threshold because it was "in a school zone". I was on SH1, the school is on a side road and from memory it was a Saturday.

And they tell us its not revenue gathering, and wonder why so many people have lost respect for them...

if you are doing 60 in a 50 zone regularly you need your nuts removed with a blunt knife, the speed is clearly posted...dont like it??? ride a plurry pushbike....
cruise control is a wonderful tool...set and forget on open road...I even use it in town.....so easy to do and you dont need to worry you going too fast, touch brakes you slow down,re click and back to 48kms-89kms-98kms depending on zone. but Im biased as I drive for a living and see the results of crap driving all the time.

How would you expect to identify the driver if the photo was taken of the rear number plate then.

Or if the visor was down covering part of the face. How would one be identified then.
