Anyone have any experience with ssangyong as a brand? Looking at getting a rexton as a family wagon. Looks to have pretty good reviews, and can handle some light off-road. Should be good enough to get me to the blocks I hunt.

the company is currently for sale by its parent company mahindra. i would wait to see the outcome before buying one

Open to suggestions for other vehicles. Prefer diesel, leather seats(kids spilling shit), 7 seater, half decent 4wd. Up to $12k
Was looking at a Santa Fe too, just hard to find one with less that 200k on the clock in my price range.
Mid 2000's Land Rover Discovery. $7-12 K range. Then with the money saved you can begin future payments to your friendly mechanic for all the forthcoming repairs!
At least parts are plentiful in comparison to Sanyongs. And shouldn't rust the same way either.

Buy a Toyota.
Not only are the cars from them are ugly, but they aren't made well. I mean, they'll get you from point A to point B, but Honda/Toyota will do it much, much better. They're also reliable, so I'd skip Ssangyong at all. Nobody knows if it's still going to exist in a few years and everyone will forget about it.
My missus is on her second Rexton . The current one is top of the range and is a fantastic vehicle. It regularly pulls a loaded float up hills and doesn’t blink at it. They perform well and hardly even sound like a diesel.
until recently I had a 2005 Korando, the one that isn't common here in NZ, Loved it. was great for hunting access and very very happy with its performance offroad. I lived in Russia for a few years and there they are more common, People liked them so much that when SsangYong stopped making them, A Russian company bought the rights to produce them as the Tagaz tiger. Have heard good things about the Rexton. I know people have these Brand loyalties with Toyota etc but I think is this day and age there all made with machine precision and assembled in the east no matter the brand.
