Most of the reviews I,ve seen say they have pretty poor fuel economy.

yup agree you will not have reliability issues but if an earlier model they do drink gas - small motor hauling around a bigger body at modern road speeds - but in saying that its comparative - way better than a 4.0 V8 or a 3.0 litre V6 just not as good as say a toyota yaris or starlet for comparison

The difference between locked and unlocked is negligible regarding fuel economy in my 70 series, so I doubt it would be worth doing in a jimny.

    Test drove the 5 door.

Cool we vehicles, but absolutely gutless.

Had to kick the shit out of it to get up some of the hills around Dunedin.

This looks like a good option.

    Greetings @bigbear,
My Jimny is almost 5 years old and averages 5.8 litres per hundred k. It is the later model with the 1,500 cc engine which may help. I don't flog it so that may help as well and don't run the AC all the time either. It also does not have any of the bolt on stuff like a snorkel for negotiating puddles in supermarket carparks or a roof rack which is almost always empty both of which hog fuel.
    Regards Grandpamac.

I have 2022 Jimny FYI economy is 10l per 100km,lots of off road 11.5 has 235 75r15 and roof racks lift kit diff locks underbody protection, winch etc...yes asthmatic on open road with those mods But I just leave 5 minutes earlier than I would with a faster truck.i have thrashed it off road and all good, possibly a bit low in some conditions but diff lock worked everytime,I get up steep slopes that 70 series have to be winched up

With a 2010 era Jimny get the manual not the auto, you will need to work that stick with the M13a motor but the the fuel consumption wasn't that bad. Freewheel hubs made no difference in the scheme of things. My one was older and had a real gearstick to change into 4wd. post 2007(?) had an electronic switch controller that can play up. If you are a big unit don't bother as they are quite snug, I took out the rear seats as they were just a waste of space. Unfortunately the popularity of the new model has dragged the price of the older ones up with them.

Manual gear will give you more power, say 15% to 20% increase comparing with Auto. That tiny SUV can take you to anywhere, and do `t forget the world record of the highest mountain that 4x4 can reach out at 6,500m was Jimny.
But the problem is too small, I consider this but it `s too small. You can buy it as a toy or for some particularly purposes. I am 175cm tall, weight 145 lbs, I can fit in there, but how about my wife, my fishing and camping gears?
