Driving cars fast doesn't require real skills or courage. I exclude rally drivers from that statement, they need courage, skills and a healthy dose of insanity.Buggered if I'd get in a car with Paddon in a serious mood!, but I'd go to sleep in a car with Murphy or the like.

Two wheels at real speed, fist to fist, elbow to elbow, knee to knee fighting to win the line (or control the exit), that will focus the mind like nothing else on the planet.

Mate rally cars top speed is slow....their proximity to things kinda changes the perspective a bit though

Totally about the perspective, the rally car drivers deal with variables the other 4 wheelers do not, in an environment where mistakes have consequence.

Anyone here who thinks that driving a car at 300mph is any form of easy, you're in need of a head transplant.

It's called physics, and a great deal of physics happen mighty fast at that speed, a speed that is not far off 100mph more than the Ferrari F1 cars will be doing at Monza tomorrow night. Just keeping the fucking thing on the ground is a challenge. Think Mark Webber, Le Mans, 1999.

The reaction time to make an adjustment to the vehicle dynamics at that speed is measured in what, milliseconds? Fractions of a millisecond! You need to be exceptionally confident in your engineers to take on a challenge like that. Which is why it is the record for a road legal production car, even if it does cost however many millions.

Yes the rally guys are mental. But the difference here is roughly 200mph. That's an awful lot of physics. A properly built cage in a properly built rally car means the physics probably won't get you when you fuck it up, which at some point, you will. But I don't even want to think about what a crash in a Bugatti at 300mph would look like, the damn thing weighs 2 tonnes. It ain't gonna stop in a hurry.

Nope. It requires titanium testicles all right. God knows I can't get my head around how the spouses must feel about their hubbies doing stuff like this.

Do you race anything? I do agree it requires balls, but relatively speaking, you are wrong about the physics. He does not need to accelerate hard, brake, corner or in any other way disturb the vehicle. He is on a clean clear wide test track. The only bit that is strange here is that it is a production vehicle, buts its a race car with a number plate. He has a team of engineers there. As driving challenges go, it is middling.

A top fuel dragster does 330mph in under 400m, there are plenty of top fuel drivers. Top tier mad bastards, but there are a fair few of them.

Is it slow when you factor in you are not actually attached to anything? But yeah, top speeds are pretty mild but it sure as hell feels fast.

I was going to point to drag cars, but you beat me to it. Maybe I am kidding myself, but I would give 300ks in that Bugatti a shot without too much hesitation. Getting to 170mph in 400m, not so much.

Saw it two weeks ago in the US- 4.11secs at 179mph, and it looked super smooth (if not LOUD)
