    Toasti - The Crispy Cruiser

    Hi Everyone,

I've purchased myself a project 200 Series Cruiser. I got it off a salvaged auction with a fire damaged interior . Thought I'd make a little rebuild thread and detail the process for getting this back on the road.

    Here's a couple of pics

The body is in reasonable condition. Looks like it's done a bit of offroading with some dings and scrapes to the running boards. Seems to have a 2" lift in it, and I can see remote reservoirs, but I haven't tracked if these are doing anything. Got a nice bar and winch. The bar seem a bit twisted? Probably been wrenched on by the looks. Dual battery and the roof basket with some lightage.

Current plan is to get this thing back on the road, with a few interior mods. It's going to be our main vehicle for our family and hopefully we'll get outdoors with it over summer.

I've got my local repair certifier visiting next week to go over it all and in the meantime the hunt for parts begins!

The vehicle had no keys, I've done some reading and apparently with the right key and some software (Techstream) I'll be able to get a working remote. I hopped onto Aliexpress and found a key and a cable for $100, fingers crossed this works and perhaps I'll buy another key if it does.

I'm in the market for most of the interior forward of the front seats if anyone has a lead.

Are you going to try and get it back on the road again?

Knowing of similar dramas with modern wagons, I would suspect that the compliance officer may well rain on your parade. I imagine he'll want a shit ton of stuff replaced, and if anything structural got touched by the fire, she'll be a goneburger. But may make a nice donor engine/drivetrain for an 80 series sleeper

Probably the whole lot, every computer module, every interface, the entire loom, the entire safety fitting pack as well as the interior components and things like the glass parts. And that's if as XR500 says and the structural parts are OK. Any rusty steel work will be questionable, but I'll be guessing for what you paid the drivetrain is worth it! Actually a little jealous, 80 series troopy camper with that in it...

That’s an optimistic rebuild if ever I saw one.

How do you know that the motor, gearbox and rest of the drive train are in good running order?

Probably doesn't - more than likely it isn't currently running with the interior damage. From my experience of things like this, I would suggest that the heat has been contained away from the bits you mentioned though.

Best bet would be to find another parts car that's been in a physical crash and written off. Make one out of two. Buying in parts you need one by one is going to add up quick.
