It can easily be tuned to make 700nm and still last 500,000.....I wouldn't say the same for the hilux motor.

Tho if they wanted to they could build one.
They’ve already built one. The 1GD is already doing that kind of mileage. And it doesn’t need a load more torque to do the job. If you keep an eye on the Aussie car sales like I do - particularly the fleet auctions, mining & industrial, you’d know that its perfectly normal to see early Gen 8 Hilux (2016-17) with 400, 500,000km being sold on. Hell, even TradeMe has them with 300,000km already, in our tiddly little country. There was one on Pickles a few weeks ago in QLD - ex-railways vehicle. 2017 GUN126R, tested, passed for sale with minor cosmetic damage, 550,000km. Up and down the QLD railtracks all day, rough railway roads. The auctions will throw up 5-yr old utes with half a million clicks, one owner - not unusual. Most guys here just don’t see / understand that kinda mileage, but its not unusual in the north of Aus.

Likewise the H300 Hiace. There are mine personnel vans in north WA running the 1GD motor doing >80,000km a year, up in Newman, Tom Price, Parabardoo etc. Four, five year old vans with 350-400,000km. Watch them get snapped up at auction. There are Hino 200s all over SE Asia with a GVM of 4t, working hard… same engine. What mileage do you think the Asian Coaster buses are going to do? Those things drive all day every day. Same engine.

I’m sounding like a stuck record… I think a lot of guys are really missing the point with this debate, simply don’t have the perspective - this is not a new engine. Its a proven, long-lasting engine that’s been used in tough commercial working conditions all over the world for almost 10 years already. Perfect credentials for Toyota to pick it for the Land Cruiser 70 series. Its a no brainer. Its only the Aussies that are whinging, and a few Kiwis, its not an issue anywhere else. Most of the guys complaining will never own one anyway!

I wasn't saying the hilux motor couldn't do 500k or more my point was it probably wouldn't if tuned to 700nm and run at 80% load....by say towing a 3.5t boat all round the country but the v8 probably would.
