A mate is looking for a good 2nd hand or recon or new motor for a highlander.
Anyone know of one please?

Got a good condition landcruiser 1hdt 24 valve motor, ecu and loom....

Will it fit a highlander?

We've had to do a few at work. Rental cars that were driven through deep water. Doesn't go well.
Plus few have had oil cooler hoses split and dump all their oil and then seize.

What era highlander @Woody?
The 2GR has been used in a number of vehicles. Should be able to use any and just swap over the different bolt ons to suit the Highlander.

Try getting hold of a rentl car company. they normally have a few wrecks sitting around doing nothing. Lots damaged cars parked out by the airport here in CHCH.
Rentals aren't insured as too expensive. Only time they have insurance is when you take it out when you rent a car. And all the damaged vehicles sit around getting bits robbed as they need them.

Its a 2005 model highlander.
An oil blockage in the uptake pipe caused major engine failure as I am told. Whstever, its engine is poked to any help to replace would be appreciated by my mate. Were not experts in engine swaps so spwcific recommendatipns for us tyro's will be appreciated. Yep, pretty certain its a 2005 v6.

Those motors need regular servicing with the correct oil grade or they gum up badly and wear timing chains etc.
Toyota service schedule is 12mths/15k but I'd do 10K intervals personally.
Use a good semi synthetic or full synthetic oil 10w30 or 5w30.

Yes. I also have one, a 2007 model and love it and have it serviced every 15000 km. I have been wondeting if my mates service mechanic has used ordinay oils instead of the synthetic that the highlander requires. @cambo thankyou very much for your input. It is much appreciated. I guess an analysis of my mates oil could identify if the correct oil had been used.

There were two Highlander engines in this model, a 2.4 4cyl and a 3.3 V6. Note that you think it’s the V6, good to double check I guess.

I’ll second of the comments above about the correct type of engine oil, it is super critical not to skimp on this oil with the V6. If I’m not mistaken it needs 5w40 or 10w40 fully synthetic for NZ, as the summers can be hot. There was a big legal action against Toyota for the V6 about the oil getting all sludgy and bunging up the the lubrication. You know I’ve had a couple of problems fixed due to acknowledgement of manufacturing errors way after the warranty expired, including a full respray, you might like to talk to Toyota.

Yup and there's a recall to replace them all with metal pipes
