    Good luck.
We've had to do a few at work. Rental cars that were driven through deep water. Doesn't go well.
Plus few have had oil cooler hoses split and dump all their oil and then seize.

    What era highlander @Woody?
The 2GR has been used in a number of vehicles. Should be able to use any and just swap over the different bolt ons to suit the Highlander.

Try getting hold of a rentl car company. they normally have a few wrecks sitting around doing nothing. Lots damaged cars parked out by the airport here in CHCH.
Rentals aren't insured as too expensive. Only time they have insurance is when you take it out when you rent a car. And all the damaged vehicles sit around getting bits robbed as they need them.

Those motors need regular servicing with the correct oil grade or they gum up badly and wear timing chains etc.
Toyota service schedule is 12mths/15k but I'd do 10K intervals personally.
Use a good semi synthetic or full synthetic oil 10w30 or 5w30.

People doing 15km intervals puzzle me

Oh and they take a 5w30 full synthetic.

Problem is because that’s what it says in the book.

Both of my vehicles were bought new in Australia and imported to New Zealand when we came home. Both had 10,000 km service intervals in Australia which magically stretched to 15,000 km in New Zealand for the exact same spec.

I service both of my vehicles religiously myself at 10,000 km according to the Australian book of rules that came with the vehicles! No fluid change or bolt torque check or tire rotation is ever missed!

You used to get 3 years servicing with a new vehicle. As sales became ever more competitive, the sneaky fuckers starting selling with a 5 year service plan as a point of difference. Problem was, they just extended the service interval from 10km to 15km, meaning you got the same number of services spread over a longer timeframe, while still being under warranty. Think it was Hyundai from memory. Any follow on problems would occur outside the warranty period, so no skin off their nose.

@cambo, I had a dude come in wanting to know my opinion on what I would consider to be normal oil consumption. Reply was on what and how many kms? A: Brand new Golf, 4 digit kms... Well, SFA to none to be honest. Turns out Giltraps were telling this guy that 1.0l of oil consumption every 1000km was normal - keeping in mind that it held just under 5.0l and had a 15km interval. What a crock.

Our dealership uses TMGO 10w30 (Castrol oil made for Toyota) in them.
5w30 would be my personal choice though.

And look at the VW range that have a 30K service interval

Yes. I also have one, a 2007 model and love it and have it serviced every 15000 km. I have been wondeting if my mates service mechanic has used ordinay oils instead of the synthetic that the highlander requires. @cambo thankyou very much for your input. It is much appreciated. I guess an analysis of my mates oil could identify if the correct oil had been used.
