    Trailer WOF

Had someone tell me their brand new trailer had just got a wof....with the tail lights not at the rear of the boat trailer but perched back on the mudguards. I thought there were angles from the rearmost part of the trailer that the lights had to be visible from, from both the inboard and outboard side?

Someone who's in the industry may be able to put me right here. Is this legal?, cause it certainly would save on damage etc

Is that the number plate mounted on the frame?
Could become an insurance shit fight after a crash.

Yeah, that's how I read it too. Thanks for confirming what I already thought.

MAYBE has secondary set of lights to go on boat itself??? That would be ideal scenario.

That's no good, the only way it would be ok is if the lights were higher up the guards where the black mark is and there was nothing on the trailer at the time of inspection...

Then there's the number plate and light..

I have a logsplitter where the lights were on the guards with a reflector on ram which is behind the guards.
    It got a wof.
Have given it a tidy up and intend to run a lightboard hanging on the ram no lights on the guards as there they get damaged.

Common stitchup is the revolving trailer trick, where their shop trailer gets a plate on it each time a current wof is needed. They then swap the plate and wof onto the intended trailer. Happens a lot, we have cameras which has saved us twice. Boat sales yards are a cunt for it

Yeah, the other dodge is the new plate if it fails for rust trick. A Dulux overhaul and a new plate/reg, and away we go - hide any evidence the thing has failed for rust ever. I ran into that one once, stuck a torch up the channel of the trailer and asked about the state of the tube with heaps of blown rust and blistering visible. Seller was a bit 'um, ahh, um, well, ahh, it's got a new wof'... We got the old plate number from a photo on the ad and checked up on that and the entire trailer main frame had been failed and they changed the reg and took it somewhere else after a quick paint.

Almost like trailers need to have a chassis number permanently attached to the trailer and end some of the 'workaround' tricks for the rules..

We are one of the few places that does trailer WOF's. I had never heard of it until moving here, certainly not something that happened in England also the trailer over there only needs the tow vehicles licence plate and not its own as they also don't need to be registered.

Oh and you can just buy the licence plate from the equivalent of Repco or Supercheap not need for it to be officially issued by the Road licencing crowd
