    Trailers

After a trailer for firewood transport non commercial (and general shit).
I see there are Diamond Brand trailers on trademe for 2300$ which fit the bill of: 8x5 cage, 1300kg and comes with a tarp
Any other options I should consider any opinions on this particular one?

    Check out the Kea Trailers

    They're pretty good.

Or if your handy with a welder then you might want to build your own.

I built a trailer in 1980 when I was a first year apprentice.

It's still sitting in the backyard and going strong.

    Cheers
    Pete

I just bought one from guy in Matamata/morrinsville . Same price as you mention, but 7x4 heavy duty. Treadplate floor, good strong canvas with zips and Velcro on one end only, so less likely to leak.
He has heaps on TM under the Tui trailer brand. 022 323_5915

Be very careful with trademe trailers; one that we checked out was claimed to be made in NZ but turned out to be the shittiest Chinese welding that you've ever seen.

We got a Trayla one in the end - very impresed.

I will say that the finishing on mine leaves some room for improvement, but seems solid.
Also makes an excellent makeshift kennel.

Greatest weakness of a chinese trailer will be the stubs and axle welding. Exposed to the elements and usually the first to go when a heavy load is applied.

If you're thinking of making your own, the most expensive parts are the same parts - hubs, stubs, and steel. I can buy at a pretty good trade price, but even then, the cost for twin axle springs hubs, stubs and coupling will work out over five hundy if you buy decent brand stuff here in NZ.

Has high sides also. It is three years old, led's etc. all out of 3mm NZ steel and galvanised.
It's hardly been used. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1439283625.696253.jpg

    Trailers

For forum members I will sell this one if anyone is interested for $1900 that includes the high sides.
Considering the galvanising was $400 and ply $140 alone that's a very sharp price. The cross members underneath are 400mm apart and are 50x25 and all the rest is 65x35x3mm.
    Cost easy that to build

Yeah it's not worth building your own trailer unless it's a big tandem or specialist trailer.

Cheaper to buy one, especially if you factor in your own time.

This is one I made a few months ago, well just before it was completed.
