    Turbo or supercharger?

Morning Guys, Have a hilux with the 5l engine, was after a bit more power on the road, anyone have any experience with fitting either turbo or super chargers?
Don't want two spend a fortune on it, was wondering how much was involved.
    Thanks.

Turbo, fitted a supercharger to my 3l which was awesome for its intended use off road, would not recommend for on road.very noisy and takes a lot of power to make power.

    Turbo it.

    5l as in Holden 5.0 v8?
If so each had their own bonus and drawbacks. The blower will generally cost more on oats but be easier to fit as it's all bolt on. The turbo will take a lot of fabrication of the exhaust system and piping of the intercooler. For this type of mod your best to join a car forum

And for a lot less money than a turbo or blower you could just change cams and do some head work to make good gains, i have a Holden ss with big cam etc and I'm sure it's got more go than what you need

    Sorry guys it's a 3 litre diesel
    It's called a 5l engine.
The 2.8 engine is called the 3l
I have read the 2.8 was way easier two turbo.

I'd turbo get the turbo etc off the 1kz or do a 1kz conversion, I have a 99 4m40 triton which I turbo'd and being a mechanic by trade still cost me around 2500 once I brought the turbo the manifold oil and return lines made a new exhaust and had the injector pump rebuilt with the turbo gear fitted to it

The bosses old one had a safari systems on fitted, went ok but under fuelled.
I think those complete kits were about 4k out of Oz.
If your handy you should be able to do it for the cost of a good second hand turbo and a boost compensator for your pump( tho the compensator is not totally nessacary but you will black smoke for a few sec till you get boost if you plant it)

Keep an eye on tardme, turbos and manifolds come up all the time.

If your truck has the plain jane 5L it will be easy to add the turbo.

If it has the later 5LE - it will be a lot more difficult to sort. Do-able but lot more expensive.

Using the 2.4 turbo gear is the easy route to take for a 2.8. Ends up looking factory.

Getting better performance you will need a T3/4 turbo with custom manifold or use a 1KZ turbo and again have a manifold made to suit. Also will need a boost compensator added to injection pump.
