Pics I have at the moment, pretty common way of setting up boats in South Africa as our coast guard is non existant and we beach launch through big surf on remote beaches!
Luckily we don't "need" that level of insurance here in NZ!
Iv allways been interested in cats for their inherent stability but they never seem to fit my criteria that looks shit hot
Im a ruff bugger tho so id need ali
Haha, yeah, at least the hulls are reinforced with stanless steel along the bottom so you can power it through the shore break and beach it, then just use the breakneck to pull it off the sand rather than getting stuck trying to pull it out the water.
The motors have beach kits so they just kick up when you hit the sand!
She is a work in progress, had been pretty neglected when i bought it, still a bit more work to do on her!
Just ordered a 7.5 pitch prop for my 8hp (on a dingy) Got the motor off trade me and it had been on a yacht so was de pitched to 6.5

Hey @Bill999, here is a review of the model that replaced my one if you are interested, the other ones that are interesting are the Mallard Cobra Cat and the Invader Cat. :)

mmmm twin outboards look so sweet. might have to save my pennies and do a conversion haha
I would say 5 to 8 Silentscope - you can use it for trolling or safety backup
So why have an auxiliary - you have some chance to hold your own if something goes wrong near rocks, on a bar or near a jetty - I have used one for safety a couple of times over the years and appreciated having it -
A 5m Solataire with a 115 and 7.5 Mercury - stopped and drifted onto the Wanganui South Mole - auxiliary saved us
I bought a 6.9m Tristram with a 200 and 15 Johnson - on one of the first trips in the briny - Plimmerton down to Verns Rock - the 200 shit itself - so we came back on the 15 - took a couple of hours but reasonable conditions so no need to panic - sad with a brand new $80k rig -turned out the 200 had a pin hole in a frost plug - just in line with the electronic box of stuff - it didn’t like a water blasting with salt water
I have always had brand new gear - but nothing is new forever and nothing is certain in boating - so many things can go wrong
I have a 6m Tristram now with a 150 and 8 Yamaha - I can use the 8 to get back up a shallow channel in low water conditions - works fine and saves sandblasting the prop and skeg on the big motor
Thinking about an auxiliary - as the man from Mitre 10 says “Big is Good” ;) and always use a high thrust propeller - on a Yamaha - the centre rear will be black
