There's a setup that looks a little like snow chains - one wheel only though and it's got a few metres of solid webbing attached. Basically it rolls the webbing up around the wheel - just enough to get you unstuck. Bit of a pest to set up I'd say but if you had nothing else it would save your bum...

looks like something that would be worth sticking on the front tray - just in case - thats if you did not wish to go to the expense of a real winch
