Zooki love thread....

Recently re aquired my old zooki escudo back off a mate. She was long overdue for some love....
Been off the road for 4 years been used as a farm truck (no stock just green houses) has done 6000km in that time.
Took for a wof and she passed without fault....decided she was long overdue for a bit of a freshen up....I've been putting off doing the cam belt for at least 5 years, current belt done unkown amount of kms but likely 175000km maybe more....
Pulled the old belt and pump today.....she's a little worn :yaeh am not durnk:

Once the belt is done, I'll build a new rear bar with removable hitch and rated recovery points, fuel tank bash plate, rock sliders, snorkel, then a new front bar (the current one is a bit agriculture but serviceable)

He she is sitting up on ramps awaiting a new water pump to arrive before i fit the new cambelt and put everything back together.
Also looking at modding the air con compressor for on board air at some stage.

Current mods she's got 2" spring lift, maxxis buckshot 30" muddies, runva 9000lb winch.

You seem to be doing a bit of buying back things you sold a while back....seller's remorse??? :P

Didn't exactly buy this back, more like long term loaned it to a mate and have re claimed it as my pajero needs some major work that will likely see it off the road for 6 months, forgot how much fun this wee truck is so stupidly capable :cool:

I had a 2.4 petrol Grand Vitara. Still have a (unfitted by me) snorkel in the shed if you are interested. Guessing the front guard might need some adapting to take snorkel base.

Good thread. Have been looking at some Zuks for the Mrs to replace her on farm quad with. Warm, keeps things dry, cheaper parts and most probably the same price up front!

Anything to be aware of re 2nd and 3rd generation Suzukis??

I started 4x4 life with the venerable 530cc 2 stroke Suzuki, and that taught you an awful lot pretty quickly about what a capable machine Suzuki's can be.

Stay away from the v6 petrol bout the only thing I'm aware of

I have a LWB 2.0L V6 petrol one of these, It has been through a couple of forum members.
It is a little trooper, it's currently waiting for me to find the time to replace the timing chain as it sounds like it thinks its an angle grinder.
The timing chain kit is probably worth more than the car. They are great little off roaders as long as you treat them gentle. @dannyb I know a good camping/4WDing spot near Springs Junction you and the family will need to come visit. Might have to let that @223nut fella know too.

It can certainly go places most bigger trucks cannot, but if the family came the bigger truck would need to come unfortunately :( I'll be taking the pajero off the road as soon as I put the zooki back together....no reason why I can't come for a camp session though with 1 or 2 kids :thumbsup:

Keen, expect I'd need a very long snorkel to get the landcruiser to the mainland

While it's not Escud related, can you get hold of one of the little zook 4x4 farm trucks? They aren't road legal as no ABS or airbags which means they can't meet minimum crash star ratings now - but I've been really impressed with them cost vs ability, and added bonus you can get the parts at Supercheap and Repco. Way cheaper than ATV parts pricing, I've been quite shocked at what the dealers think are fair prices for basic service parts. The farm trucks whatever Suzuki calls them now are more economical, comfortable, quieter and just as much ability in terms of going places.

That Suzuki timing adjustment is a thing, done a couple of V6's now and on both of them we had to adjust one side off what should have been the correct timing position by the marks...

Was quite funny, the timing marks on the cam and crank weren't lined up when I pulled the old belt. Double and tripple checked when I put it back together and I have definitely got it right.
Still need to run a timing light over it but will do that Monday, it's running as good as it ever has. I am aware of the need to bridge the data plug between pin 4 and 5 to check the timing. Mine is a G16b 16 valve efi, bloody gutless compared to the 3.2td pajero :psychotic:

gutless...... now this may seem radicle solution but try running mixture of 91 and higher octane when doing hard yakka or hilly trips...it made a HUGE difference in the ladas .

Good idea. Will have a look. I have enough road legal trucks, just need a reliable warm light 4x4 for around the farm. Bloody Honda 420 has been pretty fantastic in the 10 years we have had it, but its blowing one of the main fuses and buggered if I can diagnose whats fucked. But around the farm even the Pootrol is more economical than that bloody quad: 12L for 55kms every time. AND its fuel injected!!!

Edit. Just been on retardme and Jeeeeezus they want some coin for those suzuki farm trucks! Will keep looking at the 5-6K Escudos as they come up.

What year is it? We bought a brand new one in 2017 (I think..) and it was a complete lemon kept on blowing fuse for the fuel pump and stranding us. In the end it was something to do with the wiring on that year model running close to the exhaust somewhere and melting as it happened to quite a few of them.

Could be wrong here but I was told the farm trucks aren't road legal as they come into the country in two pieces (so more fit in a container) and are them welded together

Its an 09. And its main fuse#2 that blows all the time.

Honda technician said it can be really hard to diagnose.
Said use a paperclip to short the fuse and quickly look for the smoke, then pull the paperclip out. :omg:

But the quad doesn't own us anything really, given the thrashing its been subjected to for 10 straight years and have had to replace bugger all. One set of tyres, no brake pads, and some plastic welding. But I cringe every time I see my wife racing over hill and down dale on the thing attempting to round up a stroppy cow. I'm more than happy to use the two wheeler, but limiting her to either the horse or a zook ute will suit me fine. She may live a bit longer that way:thumbsup:

Took her out for a thrash today fown at Harrs road if your a Canty local.....proper stuck a couple times but proper fun :thumbsup:

That's a thing, my wife is a maniac on the 4 wheeler as well. Saw her come past the shed the other day in top cog with both sprogs hanging on white knuckled, for context it's a roughly square 1 acre block and the shed is basically in the mid point on one fence! :wtfsmilie:

They wee called a farmworker. They used to be the 413 model or the older jimney before they were jimneys. Last time I saw one new was in Ashburton Suzuki on the main road.

That's them - I see some outfits bringing them in second hand ex Japan for off road work. As a second hand unit ex a stealer they are still less than half the cost of a sxs - those things are feral for $$$$... Often they come with a tilt tray or a tipper setup of some sort too.
