    Field Trial Results

Sunday November 4th 2 x champ trials were successfully run on the South Auckland gun dog grounds outside of the Tuakau township
A&RGSPC Pointer Setter Championship Trial Judge: Mac McArthur
NAGDC Pointer & Setter Championship Trial Judge: David Richardson

A fairly large field was entered with upto 19 dogs to run ranging from English Pointers, English Setters , Irish Setters , Gordon Setters , German Short haired Pointers ,German Wire hair pointers and Hungarian Vizlas.

The format was a down the line --point , dead retrieve and point o finish.
A very brisk cold wind greeted all as we arrived so once again all rugged up for the day and Im sure with an expectation of early long finds .

The first course was a large one with crossing water hazards and plenty of live game on the field with both Pukekoe and Hairs featuring and to boot underfoot was very well pucked .
The first course was a little hard to see the dogs working clearly as the angle and distance inhibited that to some degree .My own dog Inti started out strong quartering well and had a good find with good manners .On to search the dead but with a bit of live game showing itself the Judge gave a certain amount of lee way to whistle the dog of un wanted game and to get back onto the dead find .Inti pointed dead and was commanded in to collect which he dead -dropping it twice at my feet before delivering to hand .On to the last bird but with a few to many control points with peeing and jumping into the water hazards but find and great manners but sadly me not in contention for 1st place .
The second course was interesting watching the first bird being approached , it looked easy but the wind was doing something that was making the bird not as easy a find as one expected in fact the were some very interesting finds on differing angles, mine included for both birds. I had a good run with good work and manners -the dead was pointed and instantly retrieved when ordered in to do so .

Final winners -1st Ground for a challenge point each Dave Sheeley and Robyn Gaskin
Second ground 1 st dressed in fine Tweed yours truly and my trusted dog "INTI" for my first Championship Challenge point and the NAGDC cup

Well done! It must be the tweed

Inti did look like he was working well out there. A lot of dogs didn't manage to complete the courses (mine bombing out in both!) and the walking was hard for judges and handlers. At least the handlers only had to do it a couple of times.
