    Gentle Annie Steel Challenge 2017

The Gentle Annie Steel Challenge (GAS Challenge for short) is a field target shooting competition held on one of the Central North Island’s most iconic back country stations. The property is located off the Napier-Taihape Road (The Gentle Annie).

The competition will be held on the 9th of December, 2017. There are very limited entries spots available.

There will be three classes of entry / competition as part of the 2017 GAS Challenge:
    - Hunter class, 50 shots, targets between 10m and 350m, no full length magnums, nothing over 3200fps at the muzzle – as is normal for our hunter class events expect more positional shooting, some speed shooting, some precision shooting, and some unconventional positions.
    - Precision class, 80 shots, targets out to ~1000m, nothing larger than a 300WinMag, nothing over 3200fps at the muzzle – expect this class to involve some speed, some positional, some problem solving, some unconventional shooting positions and plenty of shooting.
    - Long range class, 40-50 shots, targets between 500m and 1400m, calibres up to .338 but talk to me if you want to use something bigger – expect this class to be mostly prone shooting but I am sure to throw something else in there.

Competitors will only be able to compete in one class and trophies will be awarded for all three classes.

Entry fee is $60 per competitor and is required to be pre-paid to confirm your entry. There is limit accommodation onsite or i can point you in the direction of nearby accommodation as well.

A 4wd vehicle is preferred and if you don't have one then you should come prepared to catch a ride from the Station out to the shoot location.

Get in touch if you want to come along!

Yep, spectators would be fine but they are subject the same safety requirements as the competitors i.e. ear protection, gear, etc. and bring your own lunch. It would be a long day for spectators as well 8:30am safety briefing, 45min 4wd to shoot location, shoot, back to shearer's quarters about 4pm (or after), BBQ and results...

Am keen. Will m@il you @Gillie.
Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

@MSL, a back station not far off the Napier Taihape road... the same one as last year.

And yep, I am avoiding your question because it is private property and this is a public forum. Registered and paid competitors will receive location details in the week or so leading up to the event.

First draft of the course of fire for this year's GAS Challenge. This needs some tweaking but is looking good for a first draft.

Still plenty of entry spots available - get in touch if you want to come along.

Not at this stage. Of course if you run one i'll make every effort to make it along

As always the hardest bit is finding a property to host... also i can't say Malcolm and I have been looking hard for a property to host in the Bay of Plenty.
We did run a 22LR event in Tokoroa only a month or two back...

    Hi @300wsmPete,
The event is basically full (I am chasing a couple of people to pay entry fees at the moment - if they choose not to pay then their spots become open entry again). Also at the moment it is highly likely that the Long Range Class will be cancelled due to a lack of competitors entered into that class. We had thought that offering up the longer range class would appeal to those who want to shoot the bigger calibres without all the positional shooting involved in the Hunter and Precision classes. Turns out, not so much... At the moment I have only one paid entry in LR class and one other "maybe". Even if I had 3 or four competitors in LR class it simply isn't worth the extra work in set up (i.e. an extra 16 targets for that class alone). This is a bit disappointing but such is life
