The event is basically full (I am chasing a couple of people to pay entry fees at the moment - if they choose not to pay then their spots become open entry again). Also at the moment it is highly likely that the Long Range Class will be cancelled due to a lack of competitors entered into that class. We had thought that offering up the longer range class would appeal to those who want to shoot the bigger calibres without all the positional shooting involved in the Hunter and Precision classes. Turns out, not so much... At the moment I have only one paid entry in LR class and one other "maybe". Even if I had 3 or four competitors in LR class it simply isn't worth the extra work in set up (i.e. an extra 16 targets for that class alone). This is a bit disappointing but such is life
Owell thanks for the reply back mybe next time ,hope you have a great weekend cheers Pete

Still two spots left for this event in either the Hunter or Precision class.

The competitor's brief will be sent out to competitors today. This has the directions to the location in it. Competitors should familiarise themselves with how to get there as from Wednesday next week I will be onsite and basically out of contact.

I don't think I have seen so many happy chappies after a sporting event EVER. Well done the Gillices. Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and the very good company that attended. I was an old bastard in a squad of younger fellows and it was a pleasure to see the enjoyment they got from participation along with their patient tolerance of someone not quite as agile as they. The weather was kind; the location high up in Mangaohane spectacular; accomodation brilliant and the shooting course certainly challenging.

Cheers guys. I'll post a couple of the photos when I get around to it.
Have to mention @300wsmPete for coming third in Precision Class - excellent shooting! One of only 5 competitors (out of 28) that got above 50% in points.

A summary of the stages (Mostly Precision Class):
    • Stage 1 was shooting through a loop hole forcing a very specific position to be able to see and shoot the target through the loophole.
    • Stage 2 was a swinging target that once hit bobs, weaves, and twists erratically and the competitors has to try and hit it again while it is doing this.
    • Stage 3 was risk based. A larger target and a smaller target worth more points but any miss was worth negative points and so the competitor needs to make their choice.
    • Stage 4 was the tyres. This required 4 hits on two different targets each (8 hits in total) from 8 different positions on the tyres. Fast and accurate shooting is required, smooth transitions from position to position is needed, good planning is needed such that you use every positions and decide which position on the tyres will be best for which target.
    • Stage 5 was confidence based stage. Two targets but they are partially covered by "no hit" targets. A hit on a "no hit" target is worth negative points - how confident was the competitor to hit their intended target and not hit the penalty target?
    • Stage 6 added in frustration as the competitor had to shoot under a camouflage net that likes to get tangled in their rifle and get in the way.
    • Stage 7 was another barricade stage much like the tyres stage.
    • Stage 8 was the long target stage so in precision class that was targets out to 1060m.
    • Stage 9 was a speed stage - Precision class had targets at 300m, 700m and 900m and the competitor had to make 2 hits on each target in 2 minutes.
    • Stage 10 was the tank trap stage - another barricade stage.
    • Stage 11 was a stage where after every hit on a target the competitor had to run before they could shoot again.
    • Stage 12 was a learn your limits stage where the targets get progressively smaller and smaller.
