Thread: Te Puke rifle club HUNTER SHOOT

Its on again, the annual Te Puke rifle club Hunter Shoot.

There has been some good attendance at these shoots by forum members, and anyone that wants to get effective medium to long range zero's on their rifle.

There is going to be a host of different categories and you will be competing against rifles of similar style, so no one will be disadvantaged.
Good prizes up for grabs too!

Shot at 300 yards, 500 yards and 600 yards on electronic targets. These targets will give you velocity at that distance and group size without even having to get of your bum.

At each distance you need 7 rounds ( two sighters and 5 scoring shots ) If you are a tight arse you can get away with firing just the 5 shots. There will be 2 events at 600 yards bringing the round count up to a minimum of 20 but I would play on the cautious side and bring 50, theres always more shooting to be done!
There will be a deer sized ( and shaped ) target to be shot at later too.

Entry fee is $40 and shooting starts at 9 AM with scrutineering to put you in the right group starting from 8 AM

Dont worry if you only have your rifle zeroed for 100 yards, we can show you how to get on the target.

Great, that should fit in with my calendar, I've been keen to give this a try and after trying some 560 and 865m gongs I'm a lot more confident.

Is there a minimum calibre needed to register on the electronic targets?
Can supervised non-FAL holders have a go?

To be fair something like a .223 is a minimum. It still needs to have " legs" out at 600 yds.
Supervised non fal users are ok. Everyone is under a range officer as well.

The only issue with the electronic targets mostly in use in NZ (the Silver Mountain system) is they won't detect a projectile if its subsonic. Hardly a problem at short and medium ranges.

Thanks guys, was thinking of bringing the 243 (and the missus!) so still well above subsonic at 600m

Been working on a garden shed for my better half since 30th Dec. Finally today we finished this project so I am loading some crackers this week and hope to attend the shoot on Sunday. Probably going to use my 6.5*55.

She's pretty big job!

Hi there can someone give a rough driving time from rotorua to shooting range trying to work out what time i have to leave Napier in the morning if i come up for the day cheers pete

9am should be doable, 8am not so much...

@Cigar 9 am will probably be the start time.... depends on numbers, more people = longer to do the registration paper work and entry fees etc.

I would say if you are there by 8:45 all will be well
@300wsmPete google maps tells me its 48 mins from Rotovegas

Tested out the targets today, all seem to be working well, but the one I was on didnt seem to score that well? It didnt matter which target I used I got the same thing?

With deer season just around the corner this is a great oppurtunity to get that rifle zeroed!
