    AA Li Ion batteries..

Can I use Nitecore Li Ion batteries in my Garmin?? Are they better than standard??? Are they worth the price??? Tried Eneloops, Energisers etc but not getting a whole lot of satisfaction with run times, going flat on storage etc.. Thoughts ????

Reviews say the best batteries are the Eneloop pros and the cheapest\best place to buy them from is Amazon.

Most Li-Ion batteries are 3.7 volts, not 1.5volts like your usual AA's?

li-ion 18650's are shaped like a really big AA and look like one if you are just looking at a pic on the interwebs. they aren't the same though as they are almost twice the size and a different voltage as Gerbs said.

What sort of run time were you getting out of eneloops.

I run them in mine and I reckon they are fantastic.

    Nitecore Protected 14500 (AA Size) 3.7v 750mah Li-Ion Battery (NL147) - Mr Positive NZ

Yes they are 3.7V, and the blurb in the link above states that they are not direct replacements for normal AA's as the voltage is double and in many devices it's gauranteed to cause damage.

You try them in your garmin GPS then let us know how it goes

Generally the GPS will use 3x 1.2V rechargeable cells so you could bridge a couple of slots and use a single Li.

Got eneloop pros from Noel Leeming... Go well when straight out of charger, last couple 3 days easy... But if they sit for too long they tend to go flat... Just have to remember to charge them up before I use them...

So will that work by leaving in 2 flat cells and 1 good 3.7v cell?

Thats odd mate, i just have normal eneloops, and they are great for low self discharge. I always carry a couple of spare charged batteries in the pack and they hold their charge for a looong time.

Yep, does seem odd! Eneloop Pro's are supposed to have capacity retention of 85% after a year. If they are going flat before that, take them back.

Doh! I'm thinking of the radios. Too long since I've used the GPS.

I think it would still work well enough though.

Don't use flat cells. You need to bridge it, ie wire it.
