    Acer Lap Top Died

    Hi PC Guys,
    My 10yr old Acer Lap Top died,it had a 15inch screen.I could go down to a 11inch screen,mire compact.
Are the cheap $275-$350 laptops any good.Id just use it for general use and forum.Im using my Samsung 9+ at the monment, but its not very forum friendly.
I live 90 minutes from a PC shop to only get filled with jargon from a young saleman.
What would be a good laptop at a resonable price and warranty for my use.
Thanks for your info and time replying back to me.
    Regards Trout

You're lucky, I barely got a year out of my Acer and then a similar story from Dell. I went through a really bad run of PC laptops.

Too much watching porn. Burnt out the CPU.
Next time just limit yourself to an hour a day.

I bought the cheapest laptop (not chromebook) PBTech had a few years ago, still going okay or I wouldn't be typing this now. Used for the net and some spreadsheet stuff so didn't need serious horsepower.
It is a Lenovo, I think it was in the $300 odd range. 14 inch screen, 250GB SSD.

I using a 6 year old Asus at the moment our other Asus died at 7 years old, but they are not cheap as we tend to get the biggest 17" screen we can. At this time I would not change from this brand. Internally they all have much the same components.

All I will say is get one with a SSD drive the bigger the better, the speed difference is amazing compared to a standard spinning drive but as always backup and backup your backup. So many people say they have nothing to loose until they do loose it all.

I just bought an ex lease business grade laptop (HP Elitebook) for my son. It cost about $600 but is a fantastic machine. Business laptops are built more sturdy than consumer grade ones and offer better performance. I seriously recommend going down that route. Beware though - some can have the BIOS locked up, which doesn't affect the average person but could be a problem for some (advanced) users.
