I have a wee exped Mira?
Don't even know I am carrying it.
2 minutes to set up and keeps the mozzies and sandflies out.

I couldn't see me using a fly on the coast unless in the tussock because of the hungry bastards.

If you can get a tent at 1 to 1.3 or so kg then use the tent (or if you camp place that are insect-y)

Otherwise look at a fly or a bivvy bag / small fly combo

Have had a Macpac Olympus for years only use fly and poles now even on tops 3 seasons of the year.Whole tent heavy would buy a lightweight tent now if replacing it like the others say, heard the Luxe tents are good value a MSR lone.

Got an old Kathmandu one person and love it, been down the fly and bivy bag route. Now having to carry a 2man often. Gives you somewhere out of the rain for amcuppa

I've got a fly, a bivvy bag, a huntech biv, 1 man tent and a 2 man tent. The one I use the most is the 2 man Macpac Minaret (I wouldn't want to share it with anyone other than my Mrs though). It depends on where I'm hunting and at what time of year but basically in summer it is fly/bivvy bag combo. This lets me do a weekend trip out of a 35L daypack. For the other three seasons it is the Minaret and a 50L.

Cheers guys!! I've got an awesome sleeping bag and a thermarest neo xlite and wanting to keep my load light I might get a stoney creek fly and a small ground sheet and pick my weather to suit, decided on waipakihi for two nights as I've done 5 or 6 day trips in there.
Any other advice for me re where to camp etc, there's a heap of sign on the grass flats and Bush edges so I'm assuming I don't want to camp and smell up where i want to hunt? The sika must feed down there during the night and head back up to the tops for the day?

I use a Stoney Creek shelter all year round.

Probably gonna upgrade to one of the Kuiu tents.. Just as light pretty much.

I just got out of hunting solo in the Middle Range / Thunderbolt this weekend. I wouldn't recommend hunting the Waipak, it gets hammered. Head up the Thunderbolt, I was watching a couple of hinds a couple of nights ago, stags were roaring too.

Depends how fit you are though Name: FullSizeRender 3.jpg

Ha, classic. I train my ass off each week. Love keeping fit.

Bumped into some hunters in the Middle Range who were Heli'd in. They couldn't believe I had come from the Urchin, was crackup.
