    @Bonecrusher your huntech tarp & ground sheet combo probably weighs twice as much as my tent. (Tarptent Contrail is under 1kg with all poles, guylines included).


    You can get a tent that weighs less than most tarp/ground sheet combos. I like the closed in tent option but you could get more room with a tarp I spose.

    In the right weather sleeping with a tarp is much nicer than a tent. I have a big ole heavy army surplus goretex bivvy bag at 800 gm with a silnylon tarp at I think 400 gm. If I could be bothered I'd get one of the very light bivvys out there but the army surplus bag is nice and works well on its own too.

    I got the ozzie lined up on a nice sika stag at 250m but he couldnt pull it off @hotsoup. Yea plenty of reds roaring down in the nasty stuff only had one hew haw as we dropped down the thunderbolt.
    Ended up seeing 10 not to bad last year was better but hey was good trip ended up comin out thursday night as we thought the weather was coming in friday

    One of each? They all have their uses, strengths and weaknesses. 1 shelter for all things? tent or tarptent

    I bought a stoney creek drone fly, 700 gms I'm happy with that, my sleeping mat is 250gms and sleeping bag 1.7kg just need a little ground sheet and Bob's your uncle
