    Advice on shotgun recommendations

Hi. I'm the proud owner of a life sentence block. Might be doing a bit of shooting to reduce peskies (rabbits ferrets stoats) and would rather use a shotgun instead of rifle for safety reasons. Any recommendations on what I should look for? Have minimal experience on shotguns. Fired some a while ago. Loud bang. Rabbit fell over. Thanks for any advice

A lot depends on how close you are to your neighbors and what the relationship is like. 12 gauge is the most practical and the Beretta a300 for $1500 is the best deal in my opinion. If nose is a problem then gunworks sell suppressed 410 shotguns or consider getting a air rifle. Rws 54 is a good model air rifle and it avoids the problems that come with break barrels. At the other end of the price spectrum I have a lot of fun shooting pigeons in sheds with my crossman 1322 carbine.

Just went through this. Got a Benelli M2 semiauto 3+1, with a mag extension for 7+1. You can get a lot cheaper though.

If you want to only spend a few hundred look into those Stoeger's (Benelli knockoffs) or the Gun City 870 knockoffs. I haven't tried them personally but a few people on here have said they do pretty good for the price.

Saiga 12 with one of those muzzles breaks with the teeth out front, a holographic sight and cupla 7 round mags taped together

Don't listen to anyone suggesting anything Saiga is cool. They belong in a mental institution

M4 could be considered cool if you're into the mil semi thing.

Anything with Holland and Holland on it qualifies as cool. As with Purdy.

But if you don't want a second mortgage and want a semi I would suggest an M2 with all the 3gun fast bits on it. But NOT a pistol grip. Looks lame!

    Yeah M2's are pretty cool.

For the ultimate cool factor i'd just go with a Remington 870. Pump action for that awesome sound. It's the standard shotgun from every movie like....ever. Was (is?) standard issue in every cop car in the US. Pretty badass .

I wanted a semi but was very tempted by the 870!

Another good option is the Fabarm range. They are in the Italian "B" gun line up but cost less and have very low kick. I got one second hand that had already has 10's on thousands of rounds through it. Someone here had one for same a few weeks ago too. Uplandstalker?

I was always told a 410 was a good tool for exactly what you outline... on the Life sentence block.... I too have one of a few acres, and would of followed my own advice if I hadn't thought..... hmmmm wouldn't mind shooting a few clays on occasion... and may be even a Duck or Turkey or two... So I bought a Fabarm XLR 12G and haven't looked backsince.... even the big turkey and geese loads handles with ease (bugger all recoil compared to the remmy I had) and pumps through the Falcon 28 for a box of clays with no stoppages that also keeps the cost down.

Mine cost me $1200 new and I've not regretted a cent!!!

+1 for the Fabarm XLR 12G, they even come in left hand.
