Android Nz topo 50 satelite view resolution

Hi not sure if my phone settings are right but Does anyone else find the nztopo50 resolution blurry compared with google maps or wams pocket map?
I want to waypoint slips etc at home before heading out but its too blurry to see small clearings etc.
    What do others do?
    Cheers

The nz topo50 app sat photos will be deliberately low-res due to being fully offline - needs to be able to store them all on your phone. Google maps and other viewers etc will download as-you-go, allowing much higher res, but wouldn’t be possible to store them all for offline access.

I find topo50 sat images enough to give an idea of terrain etc, good to reference across from the topo, but if I want high quality satellite imagery, I use different sources.

Yeah it's shit, I was thinking the same thing. Must be so the app doesn't have a massive memory usage.

It'd be nice to have the option for higher res given the capacity of sd cards these days.

I've had the same problem so when I found clearings on Google maps that I like I've dropped pin on the clearings then clicked on the pin and got the map coordinates and then enter them into top 50 and marked them like that I always check both pins in topo to make sure they look a similar place on the map & it has been worth the pissing round for me but tjust make sure that two different mapping systems running the same format for the coordinates

I am pretty sure the app that HNTMAD pointed out gives high resolution off line.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

I emailed the NZ Topo 50 team (poss a team of one), and yeah, resolution is due to file size.

I asked if it would be possible to download certain areas in higher res, and he said he'd look into it, but that was a year or so ago, and haven't looked back from NZTopoMaps. Well worth going pro. Ability to overlay aerial with Topo has been a bloody game changer!

Cheers fellas glad to see my technical limitations were not the problem for once. Will give the recommended app a whirl.

What's the issue you're having Steve? Is it with downloading/caching the maps? Or the tracking? I've worked thru a few gremlins, so happy to help if I can.
