thats not a bad thing but probably not great in the hills. any other ideas?

Just get a bivi bag, come up cheap second hand on trademe and marketplace. The military goretex ones are good to go

I bought one of those a year or two back, one night out with and and I had to hang my down bag out to dry for the day.
Plan after that was to cut it open and use as a ground sheet under the bag, but not enclosed. Its still on the shelf untouched.
