Thread: army lunchbox/mess tin etc

So my boy needs a lunch box, mum has brought a plastic piece of crap that lasted as expected.
So she found a metal kids lunch box for $50.
I reckon there must be a military one that would be great for bashing the other lunch boxes into oblivion.

Anyone seen one?

From what I know of British / Commonwealth /American WW 2 the problem , as i see it is that when in the field, the squaddies did not "go off to work " with a packed lunch. The scenarios were :

1..They carried a mess tins which were basically nothing more than two bowls one fitting inside the other size about 13cm x 16cm x60 cm A Small amount of fodder could be stored within. Piccie of Brit/ Comm welath tins. teh yanks used the same concept but theirs were oval "ish."



and the cooks sloshed the fodder into the mess tins.

2...If not supported by cooks, they carried meals or rations in small cardboard box /paper wrapping/ tins and cooked/ ate from their mess tins.


There are many sturdy metal containers used by the military but then there are also many sturdy containers commercially made. Tin biscuit boxes spring to mind as they coema in a wide range of shapes/ sizes. i.e

get one of these and he'll have it until he needs to store ammo in it.

So far its looking like an ammo tin, only thing is that it needs multiple compartments for different things that she puts in there.
Probably weld in some dividers etc.

It is all gunna end up in her guts mixed up...no individual compartments in there.

Yup, that works. except for the soggy stuff and the crunchy stuff. Ill find something.

You get these organiser inserts for a .50 can from MTM ( they make the green plastic ammo boxes), specifically designed to fit into a 50 can. Three layers, turns it into a small tool chest or whatever
