    It'll be fine. I have a few items of surplus and they do the job. I recently walked right up to a deer wearing a Goretex jacket. It was pissing it down, so noise wasn't an issue it seemed. If you shop around, you might be able to get a brand new surplus jacket at the same or similar price.
