    backpack

I would like advice regarding day backpacks.

Soon I'll be going into Fiordland again for my yearly trip. Hunting there is very challenging to say the least.
I'm looking for a small day backpack that can carry some simple things like snacks, water, bullets etc.

Who can recommend a small (25 liter max?) backpack that has the ability to strap a gun when i have to bash through the bush?

I use a Spika 25L pack for day hunts. It has the ability to carry a rifle, though it is up centre of the front of the pack, not on the side, so it pays not to have the pack too full. I've never had it in anything like Fiordland conditions though.

strapping a gun to your backpack is the last thing you will want to do when bush bashing in Fiordland.

Up on the tops, you could...but you also SHOULD be carrying it ready to shoot!

I don't see how you get through the bush with rifle on pack

An option is to get some decent non rattley clips on your day pack straps and add some loops onto your sling swivel points around the entire butt tightly with a connection point at the top to click onto, and a loop at the forend to control the swing.

Butt end clip right shoulder strap, fore end at left waist

Sounds difficult, but set up right the rifle hangs across your chest and is ready very quickly left hand does forearm clip, right does butt and your hands are very close to where they need to be...

I've got a kifaru gun bearer work similar but 9n the same side, surprisingly good in the scrub as you can see and guide the muzzle. Proper thick shit your always better off with gun in hand thoigh

when it approaches 5 pm and have shot a dear, you want to bash through the bush to get out. I'll be making too much noise to shoot deer on the way out, going full speed (still 1 kmph in fiordland lol). Once closer to the water I slow down and get the rifle again.

was looking at the spika 25 too. you happy with it?

I like the idea about hanging it in front of me too attached to clips from the backpack. i'll do some thinking.
