Worthwhile though if the change in steel that has been mentioned is the difference between the Euro and Chinese versions. The Euro one is actually a bloody good knife - at any price but at less than $20 you can't go wrong. I do like the custom and handmade versions I see on here that are a very similar blade profile, but at the cost of around 8 Bahco's or more my pocket doesn't step up to the custom level (I can almost treat the Bahco as a disposable at that money). I have a Green River, a Duel, and a few other 'fanboi' brands but the Bahco just does.

Just bringing this up to date. The Bahco knives made in Sweden are no longer, Mitre10 Nelson had 4 left today and they came home with me when I clocked out. These are now a dropped line and we cannot get anymore of them.

I think Farmlands were selling them as well for a while. The handsaws were bloody good value for a while as well. You could get them about 8 bucks on special and were great for splitting sheep.

Billbob has one now,dropped one off for him today,one of the Swedish ones too. I already have two others and it's good to pass one on as my first one came from expoacher off the old forum.

Hahaha. You should have seen your face when I showed you my other knife I paid $80 for hahah

I've been using these for a while now, have a few. One stays in my tool bag for work too. Great for climbing if I have to cut a rope free in a hurry, great for cutting plastic dash pieces too for fitting communication equipment etc.
I'm disappointed to see them discontinued!

Walked into my local Farmlands this morning, picked up 3 Swedish ones for $15 something plus gst

When I found out they were gonna be made in china I went out and bought half a dozen Swedish made knives. I believe I've seen the china made knives, don't look too good to be honest.

Picked up four of the old variety as well, they will likely see me out. Even the design of the handle on the new knife doesn't look as good.

Don't know if we have them in stock at Mega yet, I'll look tomorrow.

I can confirm that mega Nelson doesn't have the new knives.

I have found a replacement for the Bahco blade.....

For the price of the Ganzo you can get a Victory 4" drop point hunter; (no sheath though. It's a great wee knife :)

Just caught up wiht this thread a couple of days ago, I use my old bahco all the time and it'd be a shame to have no access to them in future. In Farmlands Hastings today and picked up 10 of them, they've still got 30 left. Also a lot of the ne Chinese ones, these are plastic wrapped so I could not look at quality but bringing 10 Swedish knives home I should not need to worry about the Chincese quality for many years to come.

I now have a few spares on the shelf thanks to a friendly forum member.

Got 2 from twiggs petone today $12.82 for the trades knife and $19.39 + gst for the green handled laplander both swedes . They had about 50 tradies and 30 laplanders in stock .

My brother in-law got a couple in New Plymouth yes, he is very impressed with them

Couldn't help myself and just bought another 6 from GH in ChCh. For those interested they have about a pallet of the Swedish knives so ain't gonna run out anytime soon.

Only thing I'd like to see with these knives is an orange cork/foam handle so the knife floats - they make an excellent dive knife, but they sink.
Come to think of it, might be fun to strip the handle off and try that :D

Silly question. How do you quickly tell the difference between the Swedish and chinese ones? Are they marked as such?

Got a couple of those with plastic sheaths.....same colour as the knife handle. Bought them 'cos they are a super light option, but have found they don't hold an edge long.

@csmiffy yes they are marked with place of manufacture. It would be amusing if after all this hassle we were to find out the chinese ones are better!:omg:
