    Benchmade are ok, there stuff is expensive because they are made and assembled in the states, so they have to pay actual wages, as for steel type they run the full gamut of mostly to full stainless steels, nothing wrong with them at all, if the states as a place of manufacture is unimportant to you then Zero Tolerance, Spyderco, Kershaw, ESEE etc all are very good knives, some state based others more Asian...
    Depends what you want to spend and what you want it to do.

    Of course if you want a little full tang knife, as opposed to a folder then I could help out...
