    My advice is to avoid S30V. It can be chippy and a bugger to sharpen. Its improved version is S35VN and that's a much better steel.

    The best value hunting knife that I'm aware of at the moment is the Enzo Trapper in Elmax steel. $150 US plus freight. Its at the bottom of this page. Its a nice Loveless style. I've had Enzo before and they are very well made. Their sheaths are great too. Thompson Knives are good to deal with.

    An alternative is the second to top knife in N690 which is still a good steel and a bit cheaper.
