Thread: Bending a barrel of a rifle?

Hi!

I have an unusual question. Is it possible to break/bend a barrel of a gun? Crosman Copperhead 4,5 mm to be specific. Why am I asking? Because that is what my friend claims happened to my rifle. He borrowed it for a few days and now won't return it saying that there was an accident and he bent a barrel on mu Crosman. That he dropped it on a tiled floor and the barrel just bent. He said he will have it fixed and then return my gun. I call a sack of bull***t but I want my gun back in ONE piece. So is it possible to bent a barrel of a rifle and if so then how much does a fix or a replacement cost?

yip they can be bent....dont think just dropping would do it...but stranger things nave happened...

Can happen if he dropped it onto something. Do not, Do NOT let your mate try and fix it for you. He is obviously not that careful with your stuff.

In the first instance, all that may have happened is that the point of impact has changed, just adjust the sights.

Bent the barrel of a .22 falling of a farm bike, had it carried across my lap and hit gate post and ended up in a heap.
Old man straightened it don't know how as post incident distance was a key to avoiding more grief.
He had a sawn off single shot that had its barrel bent when a horse rolled on it.
He used it for dog tucker horses and as a kea gun I guess he couldn't straighten that one.
Not accurate looked like a dueling pistol.
The first one mentioned shot ok afterwards mind you open sights and if it hit a rabbit it was all good.

Sounds weird. Depending on how much your buddy knows about guns he might have dropped it and moved the sights, or damaged the gun somehow otherwise that changed point of aim/point of impact. I'd say unless it's going to an accredited gunsmith to fix (and not just "my mate who knows how to fix things), don't let him mess with it, odds are he'll only damage it more.

Ask to take a look because it might not be a big issue, and if it's truly broken, ask him to replace it entirely, or send it to crossman's warranty provided for work, at which point they'll either repair it or tell you it's a write-off. What's it worth to you all told? Might just be easier to walk away from it and take it as a learning opportunity that your friend isn't reliable.

Yep had a chinese shitter air rifle was shooting about a meter off poa at 20m had a bent barrel. First time ive ever sighted a rifle in rifle by bending a barrel.

I had a crossman air rifle as a kid that had a very thin barrel that was a liner floating in a length of thin tube/pipe. It would have been very easy to bend. Your ‘friend’ is still a plonker though.

Had a 303 with a bend in the barrel, gunsmith said it was not unusual, and that most chinese sks's had wave forms..you just need the bend to go up and down not side to side or the last few inches to be straight lol

Airguns have softer barrels. They can easily be bent back with a couple of bits of 4x2. I would say you mate accidentally did a "break barrel dry fire" where the trigger is pulled and you have it open. That flicks the barrel shut with enough force to bend it.
If you dont want to fix it yourself im sure Ron at Youngs can do it no probs. He's servicing an airgun for me at the moment
