This however makes them awesome in steeper, alpine type going where I do most of my hunting for tahr etc.
A good point - I also find the the softer boots (even good quality ones) just don't last like a stiff boot either, the constant flexing makes them fall apart.

+1 great advice guys, i have Asolo (Italian) boots for the mountains with steel shank for less flex & Mammut boots for bush hunting, goretex lined which have more flex & give.......

had a pair of american 'Danners' boots which lasted me over 20 years with just one re-sole....they were leather and really comfy......
While I might not be as good as I once was, Im as good once as I ever was!

I have just retired a pair of Scarpa SLs after 15 years. Upper is still great but the tread is nearly dead. Summer work boots now. I bought another pair (the later model SL M3) recently and they seem just as well made and are a great medium weight boot. They get my vote for durability. They don't have a gortex or other liner like a lot of boots either. Better if river crossing where they are full of water all day. Cooler in summer to.
My Zamberlane Voiz gtx are the mostly comfortable boots I own. Fairly light and fit like a glove. Even after a long day on the hill I don't feel the need to take them off when I get back to the car. A pleasure to wear.
My kick arse/snow/rocks or kick whatever you like boots are my Garmont Pinnacles. Big high rand and very stiff sole. Great in the mountains in winter. I have a pair of Scarpa Mantras which are similar but have only done a couple of trips in them. So far so good though.

Good combo! I can't be stuffed taking a photo but I currently have a pair of Vasques for softer stuff and work, La Sportiva Makalus for rougher stuff which are fantastic (about 12 years old and still going strong), and Asolo AFS Guide (plastics) for winter snow+ice stuff which don't get used that often these days.

The Vasques are a bit too soft for my taste though, at some stage they'll either wear out or get retired to just work boots.

Something nearly as stiff/solid as the Makalu but a lot lighter would be ideal for an all-rounder.

I miss the old Texan work boots. tan colour leather cowboy looking, no laces. they changed the design, and changed what was good about them.

Hey guys I've got mutant feet (high arches) so I only touch down on half the surface area and also wear out boots twice as fast - I've currently got a pair of orthotics that fit into a pair of Irish Setter boots which I only like because they are tall.

Has anyone else got short wide feet that has found a boot that suits them?

I had some Gri Sport boots for work. They were very comfortable but lasted less than a year. Thats 40 hrs a week work but they had the lesser life of any boot I've owned.
