Question Best hunting knife unders $100?

Hi all, looking for a hunting knife for skinning/boning out. Can be simple as just has to be durable and hold an edge. What has worked for you guys?
Btw with my budget im not too fussed on aesthetics although thats a bonus. Would take durability over looks all day
    Cheers

I would recommend strongly that wood handled folding Opinel knives are avoided. Great knives on the face of it and alright steel.
However the design has a major flaw. It takes very little moisture for the wood handles to swell around the hinge and jam the blade closed. You will tear you finger nails apart trying to pull the bastard open.
I keep mine for workshop or reloading room tasks. Inside.

Lol try that when the wood is wet and it's jammed. Mine required pliers. Terrible design.

    Have you actually tried this?

I used an Opinel knife in the jungles of South East Asia as a backup folder and had no issues with the Inox version despite constant moisture.

The handle is designed in such a way that the sharp, hard tap on the flattened end causes the blade to pivot on the hinge and from there the tip will be exposed enough for it to be opened.

x2 Bachos* and a victoriox boning knife for using at home for boning out/butchery.

Total of ~$80. That leaves $20 in the budget for a sharpening steel from the local op-shop. My personal theory on that is getting an old steel, I've found they are often better quality steel.

Mercator is the go. The Bahco's are pretty impressive for the money also, especially when new, but keep in mind it seems only certain people will ever be proficient at sharpening a scandi grind and I for one am not one of those people

I have played around reshaping and adjusting knives for years to find the perfect blade.... As near to it as it gets, I reckon is the Victory 'Narrow curved Boner 13cm' Hollow Ground. Code 2 72013HG200. Go for the blue handle
