GME
I have a couple of GME TX6160. Not the cheapest but I’m pretty impressed with the performance.
I can communicate with my son when he is several kilometres upstream in thick bush and he is below the level of a large river escarpment so definitely no line of sight - and I can be inside a corrugated iron clad hut.
We have had our 6160’s for a few years so it is likely they are not the latest model.
The 6160’s are menu switchable between low power (1W) and high power (5w). We’ve only ever used them on high power but only have them switched on at pre-arranged times for a 5 minute interval until contact is made, so have never had an issue with battery life.
We’ve used 5w for years but they’re on their last legs so needed new ones. I bought the 2 watt gme mostly because you can usb charge them so don’t need another battery.m, and they’re a lot smaller. I figured I’d try them and if I noticed they weren’t going as far or as good as the 5w, I’d use them for light duties and get some 5w ones. Haven’t noticed a major difference yet for my style of hunting so haven’t gone back to 5w yet. Generally we’re hunting in the same catchment so don’t really need to go much up and over. The 2w go around corners just as good as the old 5w ones did.
Mine are 2watt and have been great [emoji106]

link didn't say water ip rating but make sure you get a waterproof bag for them.
GME 5W, 6160/6165
We've had good luck with GME 2W radios for skiing and moving with groups, battery life is excellent too. Best range was 10km across a lake... they do seem to be able to work fine a little out of line of sight.
Ive got these and the GME 5 watt. The 2 watt are fine for the same catchment, mainly line of sight, back up and pottering. It's what I carry as a spare for people who come hunting with me. They are handy and compact. The 5 watt are bigger, kick arse and will work out of line of sight. I slipped one turned on into my wife's hand bag when she went shopping once. She nearly died when this voice said "it's your bank here, do you think you can afford that!". She was a couple of km away in town. I received a bit of a verbal slapping when she got home:)
Baofeng all the way, they have a waterproof model too and they cost next to nothing. I load all the PRS/UHF CB channels along with the VHF marine channels so if you are hunting by boat, you can call in the boat when you are wanting to be picked up, etc.
@Shearer. Call me
Bofang is likely to be seized at border by customs UNLESS you hold an Amature Radio ticket.

be careful of what you buy, the radio management service which is govt dept will fall on you like a ton of the proverbial if you dont adhere to their standards.
so no ali, temu etc unless you want to risk a huge fine.
I lost a GME 5 watt handset in a creek for 12 months.
Found it, dried it out and still using it.
GME for the win.
How would you guys rate the unidens in comparison to the GME‘s?
They (Baofeng) pretty much always go through no problem. Just keep moving when you use them in case the ham nerds try a fox hunt
Ive had a cheap set of unidens and another el cheapo pair for 7-8years now for duck .goose shooting and theyve stood up well .mind you ican use the CB in my truck as command module if need be so it helps.great for comms between maimais or maimai -boat -trucks ,or bettewr still if one shooter has to go mobile to locate downed bird etc. personal emergency is always included .one recently shat itself (rusty batteries compartment) but replacements cheap as chips so not that worried .
Ive got some old mil spec unidens. Had new batteries made up for them and they go fine. Used to use unidens in my vehicles but then went to oricoms which have been real good.
And the band it covers
Repco currently have the GME TX677TP on special for $199.
