    I have a set of ED3s and had a similar sounding issue (crosseyed and wouldn't focus properly). Turns out the housing for the eyecup/ocular lens was a loose fit on the left barrel and had slipped out of alignment. Winding the eyecup in and pushing it home firmly lined everything up again and fixed the problem. Probably won't help but might be worth checking before sending em off for repairs.
