Leupold BX1, Vortex Diamondback, Bushnell Engage- cheap pairs are all pretty similar- Leupolds were my favourite cause of the flat eyepiece which works well with glasses. Didn't like the domed Diamondback eyepieces so gave them to my old man and he enjoys them. Recommend going to a shop and testing out several pairs at the same time
have had bx1 leupolds and rate the diamond backs over them . have 2 pairs of diamondbacks and love them .great value for money .my son has a set of zeiss ,they are very nice binos but big jump in price from d backs. my 2 cents worth

BX2 I got second hand but still boxed from on here. Can't beat them for the price I paid.
Happy Jack.
Visit a shop and try them all out to see which ones suit your vision the best.
Any of the Nikon offerings will outperform the equivalent price range leupolds, vortex etc and are built a lot nicer also.

The biggest consideration is your budget for these. There's a big difference between $200 and a $1000.
If you want something cheap get it second hand, and try to keep it small but size only matters if you're going multi-day and weight is an issue. you can get really good binoculars for like $500-$700.
Nikon prostaff or monarch bjnos come in a number of different grades. V good valve for money. Nikon know glass.

I agree with Wildcat, look around second hand stores, you'll be surprised whats sitting there, especially the charity stores, they get given a lot of estate stuff and they sell it for not very much. On a different note, I needed to upgrade my bino's and thought I would try and combine a range finder with them at the same time, I ended up with a pair of Nikon Laserforce 10x42's, they weren't available in NZ at the time so ended up finding a pair in the U.S. for $1100nz, very lucky, and am more than happy with how they preform.
To see the unseen you need Swarovski’s. Pure class!
Yeh but possibly outside his budget. That's why I asked.
I got some Bushnell trophy 'bone collector' binos in 10x42 to get started in the open country and have been pleasantly surprised. Have spotted a lot of animals in the 18 months or so I've owned them (both Ruahines and Nat Park). Very clear, decent contrast/colours - just heavy is the only downside. My brother got the comparable value Vortex option, and I think the Bushnell has a slight edge in clarity/resolution (could be biased though...)
