Thread: Boot care and jacket treatment

Ok team what's the go here then?

My Lowa's have never been cared for except a scrub to get the dirt off, what should I be doing?

Also my Stoney Creek jacket (hybrid something or other) has never had a re water proofing...does it need one?

Might be all this rain is making me go doolalee or is there more I should do. Happy to just shut up and keep hunting

If you don't use Lowa's own cream on their boots it voids the warranty. If you don't care about the warranty then Sno Seal is what I have used for many years with no complaints.
I have found Nikwax wash in proofing to be good on jackets etc.
There are a lot of good products out there though

It's a catch 22. Using the Lowa products will probably result in cracked boots around the flex points. Using another product will void warranty but hopefully will not give cracking.
I used Effax on my Meindls and I reckon it stopped the boots breathing as well as they use to. Once I've finished the Lowa products I'll probably use something else. I have put avocado oil on the flex points of the boots.

Mine a suede not leather so will the cream and spray even work?

Should do. there are some pretty good instructions on the Lowa site about boot care.

I've just re-water proofed my Huntech jacket nik wax product prewashed then sprayed an aerosol can water proofing product got a good result
Boots I use a saddler sourced cream can't recall the product name off the top of my head it has extended the life of my boots no end in sight yet

I agree with @stug I've found Lowa and Nikwax products promote cracking especially at the toe flex area. I have been using dubbin for a couple + years on Lowa Rangers and Tibets with no issues. What I do, do is - warm my (dry) boots up in front of a fan heater (don't cook them!) as this helps the dubbin soaking in. Prior to every 3rd application I use saddle soap to clean the leather down as was recommended buy a old saddler as it stops the leather becoming too soft and ripping/tearing.

I use a bees wax on my lowa rangers the lowa cream was fucking useless.

Grangers have a re water proofing products that bivac outdoors sells that works well on my kuiu

I only use Dubin from Pac-n-save
Cheap - and time critics say it will rot the stiching they worn out anyways
Stick it on when warm from sun and put heaps on

Huberds shoe grease is the business
