I just picked up some hanwag stuff the other day. It smells like it's mainly beeswax. But it completely rejuvenated my boots (hadn't waxed them for a few trips). They stayed well and truely waterproof for the weekends trip. I've tried meindl wax (its ok) and gregor chemie? from ezidirect (wasn't a fan).
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

I ran out of my usual Skellerup product a while ago, so thought I would try something different that was handy. Lanox nx4 grease.
A liberal coating applied with an old toothbrush put boots in the sun or in front of the fire to get the grease into the fabric, and hey presto. They stay waterproof and looking good for several trips.

Yeah, I use sno seal as well.
I heat the leather with a hot air gun first to open up the pores, which helps to absorb wax deeper into the leather.

Gortex boots? Wax may not be the best bet. Or so the manufacturers reckon.

Mine are an older pair of Meindles that owe me $00, so kind of sacrificial. I do have back ups though.

Another one for Snoseal here. Does a great job.

Sno seal fucked a pair of my gore tex boots, walk through wet long grass and got wet feet. Brought new pair and only use meindl wax now, had no trouble with it.
But for non breathable material boots sno seal is good.

    Leather is breathable isn't it.?
I have no illusions about that stuff keeping your feet dry I'm more after it to keep the leather from drying out. Yes they are goreTex lined.

See a few guy's heating boots in front of fire and with heatguns here...if your boot has a pu midsole or pu sole unit you are reducing greatly the life of your boot....most manufacturers state not to heat your boots in this way and generally speaking heat from the sun should be sufficient. I have a pair of hanwag triglavs and the manufacturer recommends of course their own hanwax..having used several products and owned several different brands over the years, I would rate this wax over most others and equal to the rest....have used snoseal too and don't like it but that's my opinion.....check out what the manufacturer recommends and use that but don't over heat the leather or sole unit on your boot you will dry out and damage the leather and begin a process of breakdown in pu soles which most boot brands have..leather loves conditioning so I would recommend waxing regularly and especially around where the leather meets sole and around the tongue...cheers
