I brought this knife more than 20 years ago , as a pig sticker . I'm pretty sure it's called a buck general. It's just too frecking big and the wrong shape to be any use . I was thinking may be a knife maker could turn it into something useful . Anyone no if this would be possible and if you no anyone who would do this sort of thing ? .thanks Munsey

You could take a couple inches off and turn it into a drop point.
Get on the grinder and give it a go , just keep it cool one sweep over tho grinder and into water and so on

i reckon unless the knifemaker lops of bits on both sides it wont be balanced. the fluted part also kinda limits what you can do with it.

I thought I'd get shit for my ruler , didn't see my toes , weighs about 500 grams with sheith . I have drawn a new point on it with vivid once but it never looked right , and so never had the balls to do it . I'm sure I've got the skills to , my bee not the imagination. Also the sheath is buggered. One of my old dogs stole it from my truck and chewed on the leather sheath knife and all . It was then stashed in a kennel for a couple of years until I found it . . Its now looks like it's been to he'll and back . Otherwise I would have sold it and just got a nice knife . So I will need a new sheith made anyway , that's why I was thinking of a knife maker .

If it were mine I'd be more than happy to reshape it, but would be worried about doing it for ya, as it might not be to your liking.
P.S Saved some deer parts for a visit to the Chinese if your mans still trading his wife's happiness for random deer appendages?!

Stainless is usually so much harder to sharpen than carbon steel that blokes don't realise when they've 'cooked' a stst blade and de-tempered it. Why not give that knife (and feel good about it) to a keen fella who'se watched Rambo and would be proud to own a genuine Buck and not a chinese 'Bluck', then buy yourself a custom made knife that suits you better?

Munsey if you decide to move that knife on - PM me - I have a mate who owns a 'bluck bland' knife and I'd love to see him holding the real McCoy instead of the shiny-but-poor-imitation-of-the-real-thing he wears strapped to his waist. It's embarrassing - we have to pretend we don't know him if other hunters around lol.

I've 'reshaped' a couple of knives, including one buck.
As long as you don't get it real hot, and dip it in water as you go its fine.
I got given a buck with one of those skinning zippers on the end of it, horrible things - its now a nice wee drop point.
Same with my Victorinox skinner - was wrong for me, and now its a nice curve that suits the way I skin.
If you want to do a swap...i will trade you a pig sticker made by Franklin...my grandson would wear your buck strapped to his waist for the next ten years with pride.
Thanks for advice and offers etc everyone , I've had a pm from John Worthington , so we've cracked a deal to turn " general buck" into something more user friendly and a new sheath to boot .
Good! seeing as you were to chicken I thought I was going to have to offer but knowing me like i do it would take 6 months or a year!

In the future, next time put your thumb, or side of your hand, sideways on the point (duh flat) and all of a sudden you will find neat ways on how to reshape your knives. Not my ideas, they were my dads, Butcher most of his life, and spice merchant/ knife / Butcher supplier after that. He was always making me, and others, knifes out of the broken blades he used to get back. Victronox, Diogenes,Dick, Green River. Sadly miss you Dad. Been gone 3yrs now.
It's ironic this thread has surfaced as I've just yesterday got around to getting in contact with John the knife maker . Is getting sent on the weekend .
