Getting back to the original topic and away from arses - I use the Stoney Creek bumbag that can expand into a small backpack - I find it really good and my mate that I hunt with uses one too. I carry all the same stuff as others have listed here except I can recommend a few sections of reinforcing tie wire wrapped up in 50mm wide pvc tape (which I also carry). This is the tiewire that steelfixers use for tying reinforcing steel and to me it's the no 8 wire of the bush.
Placefakers and other outlets sell it for $5 a bundle and I use it all the time. It'll rust pretty quick so keep it dry but you can bend it by finger and fix a deer's foot that has popped out of the tendon slot when ya carry them, rig a lost rifle sling swivel pin, all sorts.
The only thing is that some places sell the silvery galv. stuff which bends once, twice, then breaks. Get the black stuff.

Why not cable ties/zip ties.
-
Whatever works for you - I find cable ties a bit wiffly
-
I used cable ties once to carry a pig. Got the bastard on my back and the cable tie broke! Yes I had forgotten my trusty rope I normally carry for that job.

Bum Bags
paracord ... I got a lifetimes supply off of a couple of dodgy round chutes that got US'd :D
Its the best thing EVER

One thing I try to keep in my pouch is hay baling twine. Easy as shit to get and free.
-
Paracord is great stuff too - it doesn't stretch like a lot of rope.
Tiewire saved me once when I lost a loose pin out of a rifle sling so I've always carried some since then.

consider a pikau/pack that can be placed inside the gut cavity. Carrying stuff on the hips can be a nuisance.
pain killers, dont forget the pain killers. And a spare little torch.

For outings not too far away from the car I use ridgeline bum bag
Rugged Rata 5 Pocket Bumbag
I pack a folding knife, multi tool, string, spare mags, otis cleaning kit pouch, ammo, camera and snacks plenty of room I swing it backwards incase I have to go prone fast.
Working on getting a camel pack of some sort .
-
Pikau with the flat straps on me back, inside it is the canvas version with the padded ones and maybe an apple or orange if I'm feeling like a guts.
Wide leather belt with knife a very small first aid type kit with fire starting gear and a few spare rounds plus a bit of chord.
Never bother with having a jacket, the fuckers always get wet no matter how much you spend or what the sales guy tells you. (They lie).

My ridge line belt bag just broke :( it seems all of my stuff from ridgeline has a pretty short life span. It was very handy. I normally keep spare mags/ammo, a leatherman and my phone and hanky in there.
Just a bit of a pain when you need to lie prone for a shot.

Up tillrecently i had aan ex military small alice pack for all my duckshooting which caried all essentials.however with a load of decoys or in my case goosedecoys, sillos etc it became an absolute nightmare.I got a ridgeline bumbag at a specials sale and modifyied it by adding a couple of old alice packstrapsso it dont slip down.Ihave nassortment of backpacks if needed or a hydration bladder.added a couple of extra pouches(one with survival kit, other essential shottie bits ).its a definite improvement.was actually thinking of a trap shooting vest which could button onto the bumbag for a little extra carrying capacity ,still considering that though.

I use a ridge line single bumbag for morning hunts & have a 15 & 30 liter packs for hunts needing more gear. We all carry pretty much the same basics but I also take immodium tablets to dry up the runs if I can't purify collected water sufficiently, if needed. I will buy one of those life straws when I see one at the local outdoors store.
