    Bushbuck Tribus 3 person tent

    Hi all,

Has anyone got experience with the above mentioned tent?
Temped to take advantage of their sale on at the moment.

A couple of things I’d like to know:

    Any issues with leaking etc?
From what I’ve seen they are a reasonably big footprint. For a 3 person lightweight tent with awning, are they excessively large or as you’d expect? I’m concerned it may limit ability to find campsites having to cater for such a large tent or am I overthinking it?

I like the idea of an awning for cooking and gear storage but can’t decide if this is impractical for many situations. Would be used in the bush, and on the tops.

Won’t always be used for 3 people but would appreciate the extra room for 2 of us as long as it won’t limit options for finding campsites. Weight of the 3 person is not an issue.

Have used a hunting bivvy mostly in the past which is fairly easy to find a spot to pitch, and also borrowed an MSR carbon reflex 2man for just myself (mate had one also) in fiordland for 10 days.

TL;DR - bushbuck yeah or nah? 3man to cover any 2-3 person hunts or buy 2 x smaller 2mans and forfeit gear and cooking space?

    Cheers,
    Jamie

I ordered one for a family tramping/camping tent. Pitched it in the lounge and promptly packed it back up and returned it. Absolute shite. Crap workmanship and average at best floor etc.Don't waste your money. If you really want one get one off aliexpress.

Agree, they are very overpriced for what you get. Comparable products on the market for far less.

With my limited experience with bushbuck gear: A) it won't perform near as well as many other options in the market for the price. B) You will likely have issues with it falling to pieces and you'll then send it back. C) It will always be on "sale" (so not on sale).

Re the 2 vs 3 person debate. If majority of your trips have 2 people on them and you want comfort, 3 man would be the way to go. Does slightly reduce the percentage of finding the perfect, flat camp spot but you can always do a little bit of earthmoving to make it fit.

Thanks very much for the feedback guys.
In light of that, what would you recommend for a similar 3man tent with awning around the same price?

Look on AliExpress for naturehike tents. That's what hunty is referring to. Same thing as bushbuck.

Seen many good reviews on facebook regarding bushbucks 2 person tent...

That said, yeah get a Naturehike, have been using an opalus 2 person (dome with big vestibule) for 2 years for hunting, absolutely no worries. Also have a lighter 2 person cloud-up.

    Plenty of reviews on youtube.

Definately spend the money and get the lighter nylon version though.

+1 on save $ by ordering Naturehike vs Bushbuck. Slight differences between Naturehike, Bushbuck, Intents, etc and little bit bigger differences to MSR brand, but value for money aliexpress Naturehike wins every time. Personally I use a Naturehike Mongar https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....a-clone-66856/
Not for Fiordland though, go for MSR or better plus a fly to go over top.

one thing to add: for the naturehike stuff it pays to compare prices, they have a dedicated online shop, and also sell.directly over alibaba, which sometimes CAN be cheaper than from an aliexpress source, also aliexpress usually has the cheapest and slowest shipping method possible.

@STC how do you find the Opalus? I fly camp for 99% of my trips, but am starting to take the pup out a lot and would prefer a tent when with him- I like the idea of the decent vestibule on the Opalus, but it does look like a really long tent.

Apologies @Pixie Z, thought I had replied, but then apparently did not.

We use the Opalus for 99% of our tent trips, Its just much nicer to have a full enclosure (especially with in regions with sandflies).

Its vestibule is big, and we can have all our gear inside the tent. In case of an emergency it could sleep an additional person, and certainly works for a dog. Occasionally if it was very cold or raining, we even prepared our meals inside. The only issue with that is that the inner tent could be a bit taller, I cant sit upright in there. In the vestibule its fine.

The tent itself is not too heavy when considering its size, although I wish i had taken the nylon variant for a bit of weight saving. But, it packs rather large (compared with other lightweight tents like the cloud-up), and reckon for a single person its way too big. To be shared by two people its ideal.

Finding a flat spot big enough is indeed a bit of an issue, especially since that type of tent can not stand upright on its own, it needs to be anchored, but so far we have always succeeded in finding a spot that worked.

Hi STC, Im liking the sound of the opulus, just wondering about the waterproof rating, do you 3000mm is good enough for North island back country conditions?
    Cheers
