    Bushcraft/ Fieldcraft knife reccomendation

Hi there... I know there are heaps of threads on knives, but new knives come out all the time. Any reccomendations for a good, edge holding bushcrafty type knife. It will be for batoning wood and kindling and whatever else it can do as a workhorse. I have beaut skinning knife, so I just want to fill that gap. 4-5inch blade I guess. I was looking at the benchmade bushcrafter, but thought I'd put it out there for any good tips before I buy it.

If you are looking at spending around the $300 mark, decide on the features you want/need in a knife, Handle shape, Blade length, style and thickness, square backed spine for fire lighting etc etc. then approach one of the guys on the forum and ask them to make you one.
Or as above, grab a Bahco or two and fashion your own, it's not that hard to rip the handle off and fashion your own if wanted.

Mora Kansbol for me is the best bushcraft / hunting
If you are in the bush for a month it's more bushcraft than hunting and this knife is the one ( for me anyway )
I mean you only need to shoot 1 deer a week anyway
But there are always heaps of knife related chores to do around camp

Well I have just made two Ray Mear type clones, just for the hell of it, both made from 4mm O1 tool steel, heat treated and triple tempered, to roughly RC 58-59, one has a tapered tang and I am just in the process of putting on the yew handles, it has a true Scandi grind and a 90 degree spine, will come with a kydex sheath with a firesteel loop.

The other has a non tapered tang and more of a saber grind, micarta handles with a kydex sheath with a firesteel loop.

Both are roughly 220 mm long, half blade half handle.

buy a machete if you want to chop wood...anything less will just be a compromise....a hatchet/tommahawk is better still. you can use back to hammer in nails.... a knife is for cutting meat or string......

I would keep my good hunting / GP knife and get a small camp ax with good steel. It will be more useful for all tasks.

Beauty looking knife for sure, but a bit too pricey. Might be the last knife one would need I'm guessing.

if you're after a more Grunty blade then Shelleys Ray mears knives will do it all and more unique than store bought.
