As many as you can fit inside your pack where they can't be seen anyhow
Cant really help wee man but when 4 of us flew into the Whataroa for a week last year we weren't even asked.
Will be intersested to see what your allowed, from memory I think we took 2 jet boil sized cannisters each
But the actual regs are 1kg total or 4x 250g cylinders
I’m sorry Ryan_Songhurst as you come across as a pretty upstanding sort of guy, but as someone who makes their living as a pilot I am appalled that you would suggest that people hide undeclared dangerous goods in their luggage.
Here’s what Haast Heli emailed last year
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) limit the dangerous goods we can carry. Please take note of and apply the following limits to your gear list:
• NO LPG bottles with passengers. No exceptions.
• Ammunition: Max 5kg per person per load.
• Butane gas cannisters: Max 1 kg per package (not bigger than 500 g each cannister).
• White Spirits: Max 20 litres per load in approved containers (e.g. petrol/diesel jerries’).
• Petrol: Max 5 litres per load in approved containers (e.g. petrol/diesel jerries’).
How do doc resupply gas at the huts on the great walks?
No passengers on board and in pods, same with using load slings.
No gas inside helicopter i was told
Interesting results alright - hopefully will be able to publish a source when i get a reply tomorrow? I looked into the CAA dangerous goods list - was like walking through a mine field - one reference to another etc. Though Outdoorlad seems to got some good info - 20 litres of white spirits - wow.
Burning dannyb's boots would probably last me a week with enough fuel...size 16??
Reference from one heli operator when carrying passengers. When carried as cargo only, the quantity is upped.
CAA seem to have the info spread out from one reference to another so must have been fun collating all this in one place to make sense of it all?
Note there is no differentiate made between white spirits and petrol - which seems to make sense after earlier discussion on the matter? Same thing for the purpose of carrying?
