While it was light, the Swiss Gold took up more space in my overnighter pack than I liked. My bro-in-law was into Chemex, and I started playing around with a low-tech version. I made my setup from three containers that Bargain Box sends their sauces in. The smaller container holds enough coffee for 3-4 cups, and the paper filters are biodegradeable so stay behind on the hill under a rock or bush. The trick is to pour the hot water slowly over the grinds in a circular motion, to avoid them 'stewing' for too long.
Once the coffee is ready, the bottom container gets stacked inside the top container making a simple double-wall insulated cup.
