Am thinking that if an ordinary pan works, then I can make a simple ring to fit on top of the Jetboil that should work. But if there is a flux ring pan available and it works betterer, then I'd look at that too. I've always been lead to believe that these Jetboil type cookers only work with the appropriate flux ring cooking utensil. And now Im finding that the pan they sell is a rather expensive back pack type frypan with no flux ring. I just wanna cook up some heart or backstraps in butter as a change from dehi.

Can you save weight by switching out the Jetboil and running a lightweight cooker and a pot with a heat exchanger? and then add in the frypan.
My go to for solo multiday used to be a Primus Eta Lite. I now use a Soto windmaster and a titanium pot. Boils as quick as my Primus does, possibly quicker, light on fuel usage too.

Just kidding, I use a cheap Kmart frying pan. You need to keep an eye on it though as the heat is blasted into one spot.

Yep I just use the little metal clip on base and a macpac frypan, it’s not non stick of course so need some
Oil and attention while cooking but works fine!

@Husky1600 the jetboil frypan has the flux ring, it's about 6 years old. Weighs ~200gr. Good bit of kit.

The lite weight Frypans work on the pot stand thing ok, just got to watch them.

As Roktoy mentioned you can save a bit of weight going with a small cooker, titanium pot and Kmart non stick over the JB system. I also have a titanium Naki grill mesh that I use for cooking over a fire. That's pretty lightweight.

The newer jetboils have a regulator and cooking on them is fine. I have a standard jetboil pan, bit heavy at ~300grms so I don’t carry on long packing trips but is awesome cooking meat on.

And as Micky Duck says, to regulate the heat hold the pan and vary the distance from the flame.
I've had guys tell me that non stick pans a shit because the non stick burns off, while they are trying to unstick their meal from a thin Ali mess tin with the heat at full noise. And they wonder why the non stick burns off their pans.
I do this to & as soon as food starts to stick I go to the briscoes & buy another one I don't try & look after the nonstick so it dose get scratched 2 bits in time & the clean up is so easy with good nonstick

Your best to use a mini or micro mo cooker as they can be turned down to simmer then can use any frypan. The flash and non regulated cookers just burn ev in middle real quick regardless of jet boil pan or not.

Good on ya for getting back to actual cooking. Never could understand the need to do everything in an instant and carting a cooker around just to boil water. Half the experience is enjoying a decent cooked meal over a fire or spirit burner like the Optimus 8r. Been doing this for decades and never felt I was disadvantaged in anyway. Did buy a MSR Pocket Rocket with a small frypan last year for one or two night fly camps but still just cook on it. Could have a meal cooked in the time it takes to boil water.
