    Custom knives

I'm looking at getting a good custom knife as a present to myself.
It will be used. And will replace my victorinox skinning knife. So am wanting a curved blade.
Where should I start to look?
What steel would you recommend? I'm wanting it to be tough but not super expensive. @Tahr you have some nice knives. @HNTMAD I quite like your work.

I will post a pic of one I saw before that got me thinking.

    I'm liking that one!
The blade appears to be longer that the claws. Which appeals.

Bottom one. Recurves can be a bugger to sharpen.

That's nice John. What's the steel? That's important.

That Elmax that I have still got here of yours is very nice. Must get it back to Hamish.

I think that he has stopped making them. The steel is L6. Average stuff, but good enough. O1 that John often uses is better. But it comes down to the heat treat really.

Zedteq still makes them. Have one here at moment that is recently made and requires some nice leather work

Can't go wrong with N690. I've tried it on deer. A nice modern fine grained steel, and I think quite stainless? Holds a good edge and not difficult to sharpen. Probably tougher and more forgiving than Elmax which can chip a bit.
