Custom rifle cases/bags
Wondering if anyone has recommendations of places that do custom bags/soft rifle cases? Particularly somewhere around Wellington (it'd be nice to keep it local for getting measured etc). I've got two Baikal takedown rifles, one in .270 and one in .308 that I'd like to have cases made for.
What I'm after is a soft, padded, and slimline, but durable takedown case for each, the idea being that if I'm on a back country fly fishing trip, or a tramp with non-hunting mates, I can have it broken down in my pack with it protected from getting knocked around while not taking up too much pack space. I've had too many trips where I've been toe to toe with easily shootable animals and been armed with nothing but a 9" 6wt.
I've been mulling over concept ideas for a while- I'd been thinking about a similar idea to a chefs knife roll, but padded... I also thought about simply cutting up an old pair of neoprene waders and stitching into sleeves for the different pieces...
I've spent hours trawling google, ebay, aliexpress etc, but it seems there's extremely little out there in the way of soft, compact takedown cases. I'm surprised there aren't many readily available options for this concept... The best option I've found so far is a case made by Skinner Sights in the US (http://www.skinnersights.com/images/Fld_Tkdwn_6.jpg?828 and http://www.skinnersights.com/images/Fld_Tkdwn_5.jpg?16), but with exchange rates, shipping from US etc they don't look like they'd work out that cheap. Plus I'd have no way of checking fit, and both rifles are quite different (the .270 has a 20" barrel and comes in about 90cm overall, while the .308 has a 14" barrel and is basically bang on minimum legal length), and their website doesn't look like it's been updated in years. I'll probably flick them an email anyway.
I'm not expecting bargain prices for what I want, and would love to support local business right now, so would love recommendations of places that might do this kind of job. Have attached photos of the rifles in question.

For my Blaser I got Twin Needle to make up two dry bags for my rifle. I either strap to the side of the pack or slip it in the pack. It has looked after it fine. Doesn’t have any padding.

@stug cheers mate. Dry bags were the other option I'd considered. I was just concerned about the bits knocking together and getting damaged- particularly scopes getting damaged or getting my zero bumped out of alignment. Are the ones Twin Needle made you pretty standard dry bags, or do they have sleeves/compartments for each component?

eberlestock packs? Thats what i use for the application you speak of. Protects rifle from.everything and you can whip it oit really fast.

Mine are just two separate dry bags. If I put them in the pack I put one down each side so they don’t rub agains each other. On the outside they are side by side, but the straps on the pack stop them moving. I can remove my scope and put it back on without loss of zero, so it stays in the pack.

@Niceandfar I’ll look into those, cheers. My Markhor pack does have a rifle sling, but I’m more after a case for when the rifle is broken down into pieces.
@MB you got a link for the one you’ve ordered? I’ve seen some of NZ Outdoors stuff on trademe. Might flick them an email. Looks like they do quality gear.
@Echo, where’d you grab that? I like the look of that for general transporting of it.
At this stage I think Stugs idea is a goer, but possibly with some thin neoprene sleeves for protection.

You could always use a dry bag with bubble wrap..........

For about 15 years I had a small manufacturing business making outdoor clothing and gear, so I run up a few of these for myself and some mates. Sold the business about 10 years ago, and unfortunately dont have a sewing machine or any of the workshop gear left - wish I did. The bags are a good quality slightly softer canvas, with a K7 fur fabric liner to allow the bags to breathe. Any of the modern commercial polar fleeces would work. There is a webbing backbone stitched down the fold line and that has a web handle on it. Each case also has a D or web slide on it so you can fit a pack strap through it when putting them on the side of your pack. Saves them slipping out in the bush, and losing them. Then there is a full length zip run right around the outside, bound over along the zip to make it robust and tidy. They work great cos you can balance your load and carry one on each side of your pack. You could then get a neoprene muffler for your suppressor and just carry that as is in your top pocket.

Probably too small for your rifle but I used a padded compartmentalised(?) lap-top bag for my take-down Gevarm.
Just posting this to give you an idea, there may be similar smallish zip up padded bags out there that would suit your needs.?

Bag from China arrived. It's surprisingly well made with thick material, but the zips on these cheap bags usually break first. Anyway, it's a good fit. I'll need to sort out some foam or something else to protect the individual components from each other in the bag. Bergara 16.5 inch barrel.
